Nowhere has it been confirmedJaysonguy

"First reported by Game Informer, and later confirmed by IGN's own sources, the console, which has been code named Project Cafe, will match or surpass the processing power of the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and support a new controller that combines a traditional dual-analog design with an integrated touchscreen display."IGN
Booyah. IGN has been contacting sources who have the dev kits. Do you think IGN would come out and straight up say that Project Cafe has these things without checking their sources AND risking their reputation?

Since IGN has confirmed this controller as being legit, I started thinking of some gaming and non gaming ideas. Lets think of some stuff!

  • Fully qwerty keyboard for online (w/stylus)
  • Universal touch screen remote (that feature alone would make the controller worth the money)
  • Controllers communicate between each other (play multiplayer games on the controllers without a TV)

Add some ideas!

I've read the posts here and I don't think anyone answered the Topic's question :P

I wrote the following in another thread on GS, here's a couple examples:

I've had this screen controller concept for so many years now. The biggest reason why I wanted it is for the following concept: Back in the day, when Madden was amazing, there was a huge problem with LAN multiplayer. Your opponent could see exactly what play you were picking, all you had to do was glance over at the other half of the screen. Now there was a button combo you could press to trick your opponent into thinking you picked that play, but to be honest most (casual) people never knew about it or just didn't want to hassle with it. So with a controller like this, it is GREAT for a game like Maddem where now you can pick your play in complete secrecy! I fricken love this controller idea. I always wanted this to happen! Now they can get rid of (for the most part) hubs on screen, and place those objects on the controller screen. Selecting weapons, health bars, etc..MicrosoftISdumb

Oh and this is past a rumor now. IGN pretty much came out and confirmed it 100%. They have great sources, this is real guys (the controller that they show is a MOCK-UP of what they THINK it could look like... it won't look like that though, I can guarantee you that.): http://gear.ign.com/articles/116/1162204p1.html

I haven't used all of the controllers listed here, but My fav is the Classic controller pro.

emirblade
I can't stand the Classic controller's analogue sticks, I would even say I hate them with a passion. They feel like they are analogue sticks on stilts (they are way to high in the air IMO), thus it is very hard to put low pressure on it for accuracy. They would be perfect for a game like Mario 64 but for something with precision like say Black Ops, I constantly wish for Gamecube controller support... I wish someone would homebrew GC controller support for Blacks Ops. There I said it. :D

[QUOTE="AutoPilotOn"]That is a good point, perhaps they could add tiny little bumps on it to improve grip. Would you say you have large, small, or average sized thumbs? My thumb don't seem to slide off the stick, so I'd like to know who this is happening to.

[QUOTE="bionicle_lover"]

actually, i half like it and half hate it. its very nice sometimes, but it also makes it a pain to use the control pad because of positioning.

I personally dont mind any of the analog sticks except the playstation one. i hate that one.

riariases

That doesn't sound like a knock on the thumb stick. It's not the thumb stick's fault for being placed there! :P

This poll is solely about the feel and control of the analogue sticks you've used. Forget about every other aspect of the controllers or portable systems.

Thats dumb. So lets say you got a new car, but it had no doors and you had to get in by climbing through the trunk. Is that what you would call a good car? When talking about analog sticks, position counts too.

Your example is not relevant. You see, the point of the poll is to grade the analogue stick by its look, feel, precision, etc. I agree position matters to this poll ONLY for the relevance to how the analogue feels with this position (is the analogue placed to far in or is it to close to the edge). If you take positioning into any other context (like in relation to other buttons) you are then not talking directly about the analogue stick anymore. You are now talking about a flaw in the controller or portable system. I better example than the one you gave about a car door would be this: Say we are talking about knives and I say to you "What is the sharpest knife you've ever used". Then you say "blah blah blah has the sharpest knife blade I've ever used... but I didn't like the weight of the knife". Your weight of the knife comment would not be relevant at all to the question first asked. It is a specific question solely on the sharpness of a blade. If weight has a factor in the sharpness of the blade, it still wouldn't matter, because it would still be the sharpest knife regardless. ;)

I like fooling around with people's brains with concepts like these. :D

xbox by far. The 3ds is ok but my thumb always slips off it. I am not a fan of the PS controllers in general. AutoPilotOn

I want to set up a poll for those who HAVE a Nintendo 3DS. Simply vote and tell us what you voted for in the comments below. So I can have more answers I will try to group company controllers togther, just specify below which specific controller it is in your comment, also tell us why it is your favorite. I didn't want to add the PSP or N64 because there is no way they could possibly be the best, but I put them in there anyway. ;)

My opinion: I believe the 3DS is the greatest analogue stick ever created. I've used controllers from every system and portable that has had an alagoue stick, and the 3DS is just perfect (low height, feels great on your thumb, great resistance, excellent percision, etc). I hope all future analogue sticks will follow this formula!

I don't want to sound like a genius... but I am. :P :P

I know a lot of you can't have an opinion on this (because you don't have a 3DS) but the Nintendo 3DS analogue stick is the greatest analogue stick I've ever used. It is perfect in EVERY way. It has an extremely low height, it has PERFECT resistance, it feels fantastic on your thumb, etc. I hope the Wii 2 sticks are exactly the same. The Wii's classic controller's analgue sticks are so fricken bad, its like the opposite of everything I mentioned above.
