The thing that geta me upset is that they could have picked ANY other name and it would of been better that "U"

they at least should of called it the "Nintendo U" since by "U" I guess they are trying to make it sound personel like it its "Mine" or something like thatsf49erssf

I see what they were trying to do. This is really the Wii 2, two rhymes with U (you), and the Wii (we) was about everyone. I can't wait for the Nintendo Them. Its for the odd balls in your family. Ya, you know, those guys, them over there...

Buy I totally agree, the name doesn't roll off the tongue well and is hard to understand when talking with another person. I personally liked Nintendo Stream a LOT better. It was straight and to the point of what the console does. They could have even used a synonym of the word stream... like torrent. The Nintendo Torrent, can you imagine what the google searches would pick up when searching that? Ok, maybe that's too far, but at least the homebrew community would be like: "That's the best name evvvvvver!". :P

Copy and paste this into youtube: "Kung Pow - Wii-U". Click the first video you see. That's how you pronounce it.

You have to say it over and over again too, just like in the video.

I really don't like this name, its actually hard to say and understand. If you say "Wii-U" to someone, I'm certain they will give you a "WTF" face and ask you to repeat what you said. That's not a sign of a good product name.

It doesn't mean it's Blu-ray, but the drive probably uses a blue laser to read the discs as blue has a shorter wavelength than red and therefore allows the laser to read smaller holes. And since the holes are smaller, you can fit more in the same amount of space as a DVD. HD-DVD actually used a blue laser as well despite the fact that they were represented by Red.

So it could be a variation on Blu-ray or HD-DVD that uses a blue laser to read high capacity discs. They might avoid paying Sony (indirectly) royalties this way.

It seems like they would be on the legal "tight rope" if they do that. Probably better to just to use the Blu-Ray standard just like they've used the DVD standard in the past.

[QUOTE="MicrosoftISdumb"]

The Wii discs were also know as a "Proprietary Disc", that's what got me wondering if it is in fact a Blu-Ray disc. Because as we all know, the Wii's discs were just DVDs, but formatted in Nintendo's own proprietary format.

BrunoBRS

it's the same thing this time, just with blu-rays instead of DvDs.

Cool, that's what I was hoping. So perhaps there will be SOME promise that the Wii-U can play Blu-Ray movies... since the Wii was capable of playing DVD movies even though it was never officially released **naughty face**.

Deep down inside I want Nintendo to announce they are using their patented Holographic discs and blow people's brains :D :P. But those "discs" are so large that it wouldn't be necessary untl a few more generations into the future.

I think one of the topics not yet talked about is how Nintendo is going to be using their own "proprietary high-density optical discs". Does anyone have information on what they are using? It can't be a DVD (or dual layer DVD) because games will not fit on it. Could it be some sort of Blu-Ray disc? Hopefully they ARE using Blu-Ray discs... I could see a possible Wii-U to 3DS, 3D movie streaming in the future **looks into glass ball**.

What if there's a camera on the controller too? Like what of you could hold the controller up in front of the TV and see on the touch screen secret stuff overlaid onto the game. With the kind of AR stuff the 3DS is doing it could be really cool.

goblaa

That's a really good idea and it seems like a good progression from the 3DS to the new console. AR is the future of gaming, it would be clever if Nintendo could incorporate it in Project Cafe.

I'm going to agree with Jayson. It's not official or confirmed from anywhere. Everything is false until it comes directly from Nintendo.Haziqonfire
The wii's price cut was just announced today. Analysts announced a few weeks ago that the Wii would have a price cut this month. Info leaked out, it happens all the time!

I hope they are false. We need longer console life spans.Rod90
I totally disagree. Everything with the Wii has been done. Developers have reached their creative peak with it. Nintendo needs to release a new console to create new innovation. Lets be honest, the Wiimote technology is outdated. It was cool when it first came out, but the waggle fest is just annoying now.... need some new and improved motion controls.

I like the idea because the screen can clear up space on the tv and only show the HUD or Map of the game world.

How about in a game like Madden when you pick your play you can just touch the play you want on the screen on the Controller so the person your playing against can't see it.

What about for Splitscreen multiplayer the TV can show stats of the match and show high action areas of the match. While the controller screens can show what your person is doing it will eliminate Screen peeking. The TV can be for spectators.

Nintendo_Ownes7

Those are some great ideas, but that Madden ideas is mine. You got it from that other Gamespot thread, didn't you? hehe :) :P

I really like that split-screen multiplayer idea, it would be an interesting concept!

IGN isn't known for their sources being correct and have gotten things wrong. They talked about Kid Icarus Wii being real for so long, and we never saw anything. They have been right (I think they first talked about DKCR being at E3 just a days before their conference), but these are still just rumors to me until Nintendo shows something.JohnBean42
It is very possible it was being made for the Wii, then they decided to transfer it to the 3DS. It wouldn't be farfetched, the 3DS is quite powerful. Regardless, lets stay on topic about this real controller. ;)
