I have yet to have a single game NOT work on my new Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) machine. One thing that I have found it that the new "UAC" is screwing up some people's ability to install and run some games. Turning UAC off seems to fix most of that. As someone else said, drivers are also a major point of conflict if a game does not work. Make sure yours are up to date.

I was a bit fearful of adopting Vista as my new OS after all the horror stories. Now that that I have had it for a while I can say it is not nearly as bad as I had feared. It will just take a bit more time for it to catch on. Will it be as popular as XP? Only time will tell.

Direct2drive and Steam is quickly becoming equal in providing the same amount of games. Question is which site do you prefer?Jd1680a

Neither! I still prefer to get my games on a DVD in a box with a manual. Downloading means all you get is a game and maybe a PDF of the manual. And to save space, you may not get the manual. Plus, if any of those sites are down and I wish to reinstall a game then I have to wait. I know it is old school but I just like having the shiny disk in hand.

Unfortunately, both BF2 and BF2142 have become the home of the hack and cheat crowd. Unless you can find a group that strictly cracks down on its members that use hacks and cheats, I would avoid all the BF games altogether. When each of these games were first put out they were a lot of fun to play....before the cheating and hacks got hold of them. Now they are pretty much hit-and-miss depending upon who's playing. Frankly, BF2 is probably one of the more hacked games of the two but BF2142 is close behind.

I would have loved to see what Rockstar could have done with GTAIV if it had been designed for PC only rather then ported over. The one thing I have always disliked about the ported versions of the GTA games is that they are somewhat just dumbed down versions of the origional. The console versions are "ok" but I hate the console controls in firefights and while driving. I think that a fully compatible PC version would work far better. The new MP in GTA, while good on the console, would also be much slicker on the PC.

In some states the M rating requires that purchasers must be ID'd or the store can be fined big bucks. Not all states have adopted that law. This does not mean that someone "under age" can not play theM ratedgame only that stores can be fined for selling them without ID'ing. The person that sold the game at the Target store was probably not informed. Also, there are many game retailers that are taking the "pro-active" approach and have started ID'ing becuase legislation is pending or soon will become law. Even if it is legal for them to sell without ID'ing they are taking the action or requiring ID's as a matter of company policy. There is nothing wrong with GameStop/EB Games or any other retailer from doing this. Bottom line....if it is M and you are under the age requirement then have your parents pick it up.

PC gaming is far from dead. In fact, there are a number of games that are on track for release next year AND the year after that I am really looking forward to seeing. Consoles have supposedly killed the PC since the Atari console came out many years ago. Fact is, the PC evolves each yearwhile the consoles stagnate for upwards of three and four years. What WAS a super console last year has now been surpassed by the new PC hardware. The console companies would like to believe that the "PC is dead or dying" but it just isn't going to happen.
