One of those "this doesn't mean/add anything to the debate" comments, nice.

DVD's use a different laser, so if DVD's still work it's the BD laser. But if nothing works, than it's the whole drive I guess. It happened to me with the 60GB, it would not read BD's, only DVD's. I was still under warranty, so I got a new PS3.

Okay guys so my PS3 kicked the bucket a couple of months ago and was no longer under warranty. Being an unemployed student I can't afford to pay Sony £120 for a new one, so I was looking to fix the PS3 myself. I was wondering how to determine whether it is the blu-ray drive that is broken, or the blu-ray laser??

Anyone got any ideas? Cheers

So because Sony came out and actually said THEIR console will not, you say MS will not either

PC provides better visuals if you can afford to fork out hundreds and hundreds for a good rig.

I prefer consoles because a) I don't feel like my hardware will need an upgrade every single month to be able to play the latest games, b) because gaming with 3 friends is better than gaming by yourself.

I like the first Halo and Fable a lot more than their sequels.

I think this is fair.

We've all recently seen BF3 running on PC, it looks great and it is arguably the current graphics king. With that said, when compared to the top end graphics on the PS3, it's not leaps and bounds ahead; at least in my eyes. For me, I see no point in investing another few hundred pounds in a console which would offer only slightly better visuals. I'm more than happy to sit and wait a good few years so that technology allows for a greater jump in gaming. Whilst Microsoft may benefit in the short term by pushing out a new console, Sony will be back in the driver's seat again when it comes to the latter half of next generation...
