Okay guys so my PS3 kicked the bucket a couple of months ago and was no longer under warranty. Being an unemployed student I can't afford to pay Sony £120 for a new one, so I was looking to fix the PS3 myself. I was wondering how to determine whether it is the blu-ray drive that is broken, or the blu-ray laser??

Anyone got any ideas? Cheers

DVD's use a different laser, so if DVD's still work it's the BD laser. But if nothing works, than it's the whole drive I guess. It happened to me with the 60GB, it would not read BD's, only DVD's. I was still under warranty, so I got a new PS3.
