Bill Gates has nothing to do with this project. He retired from the director position years ago. He uses his fortune to fund charities, he's a good man. Unfortunately the suits and big wigs of the company are in control now and they only care about profits. There is nothing Bill can do to stop them now.
While that does have something to do with it, that's not the only reason. Fees ( or more likely verification) for Used games, having to connect online every 24 hours or you can't play your games, can't use any current headsets, Kinect COULD be used for spying, disturbing patents, no indie Dev support, Kinect being required just for the console to function and this useless TV function.
It's not JUST the lack of games but all of these other disturbing features and possibilities. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot this time around and they're trying their best to blame everything but themselves.
Please forgive a shameless plug of sorts but please don't even consider buying this console until they fix these issues. I've written up an article (along with sources) that sum up all of the reasons as to why I would suggest you shouldn't.

Can we have dinosaurs, please? Perhaps a Dino Crisis reboot? For the last seven or eight years we've gotten nothing but zombies or brown-dusty-OORAH modern combat shooters. Dinosaurs are very flexible. Dino Crisis 1 showed us they work perfectly in a survival horror settings. Dino Crisis 2 showed us they work perfectly in a more action based setting. Dino Stalker and Primal Carnage showed us that and FPS can be done as well.
We haven't seen a good Dinosaur game in years! (Jurrassic Park was not a dinosaur game, it was an interactive story. In my opinion.)
Want I want to know is how a game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision ended up shipping with a game developed by Bioware Montreal and published by EA.
A benchmark originally PC exclusive FPS now turned free to play like some cheesy korean MMO? That's the nail in the coffin for this franchise... Grim hopes for the gaming industry these days.
