It proved me right. What facts did you post?

Jankarcop

A piechart from 2010 is not sufficient evidence.

Why doesn't he have to post any evidence? Isn't he the one who has to show the OP's post was invalid rather me showing the OP is valid?

Yes, the burden of proof is on those claiming that the evidence I provided is invalid.

So you're crying that I'm not feeding the troll?

kalipekona

They are trolling you because you have failed to provide any concrete evidence to back your claims up and now are resorting to moving the goals and spinning things.

Actually he has. It's the people claiming that PC revenue is only high because of casual FB games that have failed to provide a single shred of evidence.

I believe one person has done that. He should provide evidence as well. At the same time, Jankarcop has made several strong claims still without any evidence to support them.

A study carried out by the Entertainment Software Association found that even in the US the PC nearly matches all home consoles combined in terms of gaming use. Other studies have shown that overall revenue generated on the PC in 2013 is on track to outpace all consoles combined.

The fact that the PC is a highly thriving game platform isn't news to most of us, but for those of you still in doubt...well, there you go.

Gargus

You do realize the reason why it is 63% is because all of the people who play farmville while at work on their company computers count right?

Proven wrong with 4 pie charts and 3 links in this very thread.

Nice try though.

The same pie chart from 2009

A bar chart that has no origin to speak of

A chart from 2010 with projections for the next two years.

And a broken image...

You do realize these all have the same issue the original pie chart had, right? Except the broken image. That isn't even anything. I also wonder if you even remember the claims you need to prove, since the new ones that works (one from this thread by the way) adds nothing to the evidence of any of those claims.

Here's more evidence:

Study - games revenue to hit $70 billion by 2017, PC largest contributor

"A new study from market research firm DFC Intelligence predicts industry revenue across consoles, mobile, PC and the web will grow from $52 billion in 2011 to $70 billion in 2017.

The report, posted over on Gamasutra, noted casual and other new consumers are expanding the market, but its the core gamer males between the ages of 12 to 30 years old which will drive the growth in revenue."

"DFC found during its study titles played on PC will make up the largest percentage of the revenue with 39% ($27.3 billion)"

"As far as other formats were concerned regarding revenue growth, DFC expects consoles to contribute 36% ($25.2 billion) and mobiles titles to contribute 25% ($17.5 billion) to revenue."

http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/07/14/pc-gaming-is-so-dead-that-63-of-american-gamers-game-on-pc-beating-smartphones-and-handhelds/

The fact that the PC is a highly thriving game platform isn't news to most of us, but for those of you still in doubt...well, there you go.

Gargus

You do realize the reason why it is 63% is because all of the people who play farmville while at work on their company computers count right? All the people who play solitare and minesweeper? All the people who play angry birds in their browser for free? All the free browser based kids games? Desktop tower defense? Bejeweled and other pop cap casual games that millions of moms play on their laptops also count. When a indie bundle of cheap little smart phone level games sells with like 5 or 10 games in it for a penny on humble indie bundle each of those games count.

Bottom line is the majority of "PC gamers" in statistics are people who play cany crush saga or games of thrones on facebook while at work, moms who play bookworm on their laptops, and kids who play angry birds or one of its million clones.

If you took away casual gaming PC gaming statistics would be under 10%.

How many games each year win game of the year awards and 100% completely PC exclusive games?

2013 http://www.gamecriticsawards.com/winners.html 1 pc exclusive

2012 http://www.gamecriticsawards.com/2012winners.html no pc exclusive games.

2011 http://www.gamecriticsawards.com/2011winners.html 1 pc exclusive

Well.....you get my point.

You are posting facts in the improper light. You take a very vauge and shadowed statistic with no break downs and you post it as absolute truth. The only fact is you wouldnt even be able to post your graph without middle aged housewives that are addicted to facebook and play chefville.

Why are you posting this nonsense again when it has already been proven false and you haven't provided a single shred of evidence to support your claims?

Hey look, your first claim backed up by actual facts. I should commend you but I realized it took you 5473 posts for that to happen. But there are problems with your source, it does not divulge into any details. But hey, it's a start. You might actually get a hang on how to actually use scientific facts.

Yes, the burden of proof is on those claiming that the evidence I provided is invalid.

It did not state what sort of games were played, so the polled users could have of included facebook games, newgrounds etc. Also, it is US only and not applicable to the rest of the world.

Jankarcop's pie-chart already addressed that. Unless you think the relative percentages have massively changed in only a couple years.

First source isn't evidence Second source says console gamers are more Third source brings me to some random website. Fourth source is old. Fifth source established out of date data, with no mention of consoles or how they compare Sixth source establishes up to date information, but also makes no mention of how it compares to competition.

Debunked because you don't like them?

What sources has the otherside come up with? Not even one yet...and not a WORD from you :|

You're getting trolled bad dude

Jankarcop
As I said, it was you who made the initial claim. Its debating 101. Whether or not I like a source of information is irrelievent. If the source in question has validity then it stands however most of what you posted (bearing in mind another poster posted those links to Forbes and GamesIndustry.biz long before you did) does not.

There are no "other sides" to any of your claims but the one involving social gaming, which would be trafalgar. He's also guilty of not providing sources.

It's a fools errand to educate jankarcop, you'd have more luck learning the structural formula of titin. Good luck everyone else.

Yes, the burden of proof is on those claiming that the evidence I provided is invalid.

kalipekona

It did not state what sort of games were played, so the polled users could have of included facebook games, newgrounds etc. Also, it is US only and not applicable to the rest of the world.

Jankarcop's pie-chart already addressed that. Unless you think the relative percentages have massively changed in only a couple years.

You'd have to prove three things for that logic to follow. That the industry isn't one to have regular large changes in those numbers (not sporadic), that the current trend isn't significant enough to make it largely different, and that there is zero reason whatsoever to think that the trend would change dramatically.

I did not claim any of that. I only questioned their definition of gamers, whether someone playing MineSweeper is considered a PC gamer.

Given the 2010 chart, its  extremely doubtful social gaming comes close to boxed+online sales.

I'd disagree, but I have no reason to follow up if you believe you meant something else by it. So I'll drop it like I did with that hermit from earlier on his claim.

PC has more sales and gamers than each Console.

That much is certain.  What we are debating now is exactly what counts as a "game".  PC already won.

Proof needed. This industry has a history of drastic changes so a assumption based on a 2010 piechart is a folly.

There's a reason circumstantial evidence is looked on negatively, just so you know. It establishes bases to make guesses, not actual proof.

Fine there is no exact proof, I'm good with just saying PC has more games, sales, and games....without indicating exactly what kind of games.

I'm cool with that. Afterall, you guys get to count shitty yearly sports rehashes right?

What qualifies as "game on PC"? Do Facebook games and solitaire mean you're a PC gamer?

Or do you have to play games like, for instance, StarCraft II?

The explosion of the F2P model for example have drastically changed the way games make money.

WiiFit, Madden, and PSN tetrist count.  Given that, it all counts.

Or even KickStarter (or Indie Go Go), in which pledging money to support the development of a game could be counted as an actual sale.

The correct term is Crowd Funding as Kickstarter is used for other projects other than games.

[QUOTE="Jankarcop"]

[QUOTE="clyde46"] You cannot claim otherwise as the article did not state what is considered "a game". clyde46

But I can post graphs showing Social Media never made up a large %, is it ample proof? NO. Is it better than posting NOTHING at all like the trolls? yes.

From a piechart from 2010..... Keep trying, you might get it eventually.

You act like 2010 was ages ago. We have seen reports from different sources that console revenue has been down these past few years. We have also seen reports that PC game revenue has seen growth year over year. We also know that Zynga revenue has been way down. Do we have a single reason to believe that FB games have grown as a percentage of that pie chart? No. In fact, we have several good reasons to believe that it has probably shrunk. It doesn't take a rocket-scientist to make a rational inference about where things approximately stand now.

Well, there could be proof. I can't say I know the data out there that is available. Like I said, I just wanted you to prove it. I didn't care if you were right or wrong, I just wanted you to back your claims because you made them and you made them grand with a lot of ego injected into it.

http://gigaom.com/2013/07/14/candy-crush-is-a-huge-hit-but-whats-next-for-its-developer/ The mobile and social gaming market is highly volatile. While companies like Zynga are crashing, others are booming.
