I'm wondering what they'll name the conferences?? Why not just call them divisions? If they're going to go through with that then i'm guessing the playoff format will change? I hope it means less teams in the playoffs. Make it mean something to win your division, stop going backwards America!! In European soccer they don't even have playoffs, you play each team at home and away that's it.X360PS3AMD05
I wish they call the new conferences Patrick (Conference that has the Penguins), Adams (Conference that has the Bruins), Norris (Conference that has the Blackhawks), and Smythe (Conference that has the Canucks). Just like the divisions from 1974 until 1992.

The Blackhawks are insane. I keep expecting the streak to end whenever they go up against a decent team (Red Wings today, Blues a few days ago) yet they still continue to keep going

Jonathan Huberdeau is absolutely sick. Panthers having something special. Too bad they suck overall.

Frustrating when your team is up 3 to 0 and the other team ties in in the third. Not sure what is going on with the Bruins. Feels like they can't play a full 60 minutes.

Them's the breaks when you're a real man.Don Cherry

Hope he's okay. Hate seeing stuff like this, especially since there's protection available. They really should get on grandfathering in a visor rule. Virtually every league mandates it's use, the players are used to it.

I like Stephen A, but he is dead wrong. And pitting him against Barry Melrose when discussing the NHL is like stealing candy from a small child. Listening to Stephen A talk about how hockey players have it easy because they can just "glide" and don't have to run makes me think he's never seen a hockey game in his life.

Stompin Tom Connors dies at 77.

Anyone who has ever gone to a hockey game before should know this little ditty.

I read something that quoted him saying the Heat's 15 game win streak was the most impressive thing he's seen in a while. Now I don't pay attention to the NBA, but didn't the Clippers have a longer one just a couple months ago? Either way, he should be quiet. ESPN's coverage of hockey sucks from what I hear. But I never have to deal with it. This is sad news: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/story/2013/03/07/sp-swiss-hockey-player-paralyzed-keller.html This has already happened in the States, now internationally...these are the only 2 cases I remember. It will happen in the NHL one day, and I fear what the NHL will (or in the case) won't do about it.

I saw an article in the Sun-Times the other day asking if the Hawks could go undefeated the entire season and I knew, I just knew they were going to lose the next game.

I'm really glad the Wings are moving to the east next year. I hated having to stay up really late to watch most of their road games.

I hate to see a rivalry like this end, it's one of the oldest in the NHL.  Plus now all of the Hawks' biggest rivalries are with temas that aren't in the same division-the Sharks, the Canucks, the Flyers.  I guess we still have St. Louis, hope that or a new rivalry heats up quickly, but it's still not the same.  *sniff* we'll miss you pricks.

this is true. but the way i see it, they had a 6 game streak and an 11 game streak. which is still very impressive. and the ties he spoke of weren't ties. they were LOSSES. the "OT Point" in hockey is one of the dumbest things in all of sports. if you want to use it as a tiebreaker for playoff seedings, thats fine. but don't make it a major part of playoff contention, as it is now.

Well the Blackhawks didn't actually lose in real hockey during that entire streak. Their losses were all in shootouts which are a poor way of deciding a game.

yes, but that's hockey way of determining a winner. if you don't win, you lose. thats how sports work...if they win a shootout, it still counts as a win. while its kinda shltty, its still the way it works...

Yeah it is great. I think they also had a 10+ game winning streak for the last few seasons.

I'm not sure if they could match the 1992-1993 Penguins Winning Streak which was 17 games overall; That same Penguins team also has the record for most games undefeated at the end of the season which was 18 games because 17 Wins and 1 Tie.

doubt they'll actually get over 17, but i'll absolutely be cheering for them to do it! if a team will eventually beat that record, who better than that same team?

Hoping a few issues are dealt with in the GM meetings.

  1. Mandatory Visors - Grandfather it in. How hard is that? Any new player in the league, making their debut must now and always wear one.
  2. Hybrid icing - I like the race for the puck, don't get me wrong, but it's far too dangerous as is now. If the offensive player is first to the FO area then it's waved off. If the defensive player gets there, it's blown down. There's still the race, but a little safer.
  3. OT - It's either got to go 3 on 3 or to 10min periods. Take away the 3 point game model and award the winner alone the points.
  4. Trapezoid - Get it out. Things will be far more interesting letting goalies handle the puck. Not all of them are great these days.

That's the thing, taking it out would lead to either ties or more ot periods. Don't think the PU would agree to that easily. It's time has past, everyone knows it. Maybe just have 1 point games if it goes to a SO. Would add a bit more urgency to the play.

I think Shootouts should stay but the loser just doesn't get a point but the shootouts should count for a tie breaker if a team is tied in standings with another team the shootout wins should be one of the tie breakers.

But that is just me; Games are still the same length there is less overtime periods in the regular season and it still gets rid of ties. Fans like watching shootouts.
