Safe to say that the Kings have a Cup hangover?Los9090
Obviously, it's because Brad Doty and Anze Kopidor have not been playing well....invisible out there. :P

But ya, looks like it. They got off to a slow start last year, but can't afford to do that this year.

Terrible night for the Sens. Mechalek a last minute scratch with a lower body injury, and then lose Karlsson to a laceration to his Achilles...out 4-6 months. Also still without Spezza. Could be long year..

JohnBean42
I told a friend that when Spezza went down that Ottawa was fine because of Karlsson. Those achilles slices can end careers, wonder if Matt Cooke will get a suspension for that.

No. He has history, but if you watch the play unfold in regular time not super slow mo, then you'll see it's a play that happens 20+ times a night. It was just a freak accident. It's only because Cooke has a history of doing stupid stuff that this is blowing up. Had it been the other way around and Cooke had his achilles cut, we would be saying it's karma.

-

I don't know why players aren't using the Kevlar socks? Sure they may not be 100% effective, but they probably could have saved Karlsson's season.

Also Cooke was trying to get better at that; He has been working with the League and trying to change how he plays so he wouldn't get anymore suspensions.

Also last night on NHL Tonight they said that there is a new sock that is flexible but it is 3 times more cut resistant then steel.

Cooke has gotten better at that aspect. I think I heard that over the past few years, he's received something like 30min in minor penalties per year. No majors.

-

I'm not sure which socks you're referring to, but these have been available for some time. Should be mandatory. I know hockey players are superstitious, but skate blades these days are beyond trusting cotton fabric to protect you. How many of these injuries have occurred recently? I mean skate cuts. I know I've seen a few wrists getting cut and several calves too.

Mitchell and Greene also have been out, they've won a lot of periods but haven't put the puck in the net.

I love Colorado, and Matt Duchene is one of my favourite players, but how did the linemen not call that offside?

JohnBean42

Nah. Looked like Hansen was trying to grab the floating puck in real time to me. Given Hossa's recent history of concussion, a light breeze could have cause an injury. I'm fine if there is a suspension, but I doubt he'll see anything. Just some retribution at some point. The Hawks didn't really have a good chance tonight.

-

The officiating in that game was horrendous. I'm surprised the Nucks got back into it. They really didn't deserve to be. But the officials really need a refresher in the rules and maybe some conditioning. They seem to be a few steps behind and are slow to react. Add to that they hesitate to make calls and refuse to consult each other when they make a mistake.

-

Case in point,

Hansen has a history of doing...stupid things. Crosschecked an official before a faceoff earlier this year, and got fined or suspended for an elbow hit during the lockout. Idk, no angles shows he was TRYING to hurt him..it just looked real awkward. But it was still an elbow to the head. Might be a fine at the least.

That was my thinking too. 10-15k. Shanny has been all over the map with punishments.

-

April 22nd should be a real physical game. I'm betting both teams bring up a couple bruisers for the match.

The Bruins schedule is such BS. They hardly ever play, which means their schedule for March is going to be brutal.

As a hawks fan I don't really care if Hansen gets suspended or not, I just want Hossa to be ok. Keith's elbow on Sedin last year was worse.

Good thing we have the ability to roll 4 lines every night. It will take a lot of presure off the team as a whole. Still it's going to be rough from this Sunday until playoffs.

The NHL needs to make cut resistant gear mandatory for their work force. Grandfather it in if need be.

Ron Rolston works very well with young players and that's what the team is. Young. Lindy's a great coach and darn near got the Sabres to the Cup at least 3 times. If Buffalo didn't let Briere or Drury walk, it'd be very interesting to see what would've happened.

Anybody see the proposed realignment?

Conference 1:  CAR, CBJ, NJD, NYI, NYR, PHI, PIT, WSH

Conference 2:  BOS, BUF, DET, FLA, MTL, OTT, TBL, TOR

Conference 3:  CHI, COL, DAL, MIN, NSH, STL, WPG

Conference 4:  ANA, CGY, EDM, LAK, PHX, SJS, VAN

When they expand it should look like this

Conference 1:  CAR, FLA, NJD, NYI, NYR, PHI, PIT, TBL

Conference 2:  BOS, BUF, MKH, MTL, OTT, QUE, TOR, WSH

Conference 3:  CBJ, CHI, COL, DAL, DET, MIN, NSH, STL

Conference 4:  ANA, CGY, EDM, LAK, PHX, SJS, VAN, WPG

TSN said tonight that if this alignment goes through, if (or when) Phoenix has to move, it would be to the West. And there are rumors that they could expand. Markham still needs the arena to be finalized, and they did vote a while ago to continue as planned...almost got scrapped. Quebec is most likely in Canada to get a team.

Ryder back to the Habs. Now about these conference proposals I dislike the last one and I dislike this one. I like how the playoff system is now. I do not look the new proposed idea. Keep the divisions the way they are. Except move a few teams around. Move Nashville to the East and Winnipeg to the West (pretty obvious if you ask me).

I agree and I think it should be Columbus since Columbus is further east then Detroit and Nashville.

Fair enough if you ask me. Still not liking the East with 16 teams to the West's 14. Not sure about this divisional playoff bit to conference playoffs. Just don't like it

Not being a jerk, but I never heard of the city of Markham! That would be sweet if Quebec gets their team back. How much did that suck for a Nordique fan to have their team uproot to Colorado and immediately win a Cup??

I'm wondering what they'll name the conferences?? Why not just call them divisions? If they're going to go through with that then i'm guessing the playoff format will change? I hope it means less teams in the playoffs. Make it mean something to win your division, stop going backwards America!! In European soccer they don't even have playoffs, you play each team at home and away that's it.
