For gaming an SSD won't make a significant difference in some games, but it will make games start up much faster and the computer will be a lot nicer to use in general. For a workstation PC where you're frequently opening different software and moving files around, it's a huge upgrade.

I bought a 360 because it has less online lag in SF4 as well as more competition. I play that game as a serious hobby, so it was a major consideration.

I feel no sense of loyalty to the platform and plan on going with PS4.

My theory has been that the guys who are able to be man-children (support from parents) do so because they realize it's probably a better lifestyle than the alternative of working their ass off at McDonalds. It's arisen due to the current economic reality facing young men who often have parents with money.

I do love those cheap frozen pizzas at the grocery store.

I lived off of those for a while in college. Those plus beer. I think the beer had some nutrients, which may explain why I only got sick a few times but managed to survive.

I'm leaning PS4 but plan to hold off for a while since the launch lineups aren't very interesting to me. I want to see what the online services are like for each and whether developers actually take advantage of the PS4's spec advantage. I could still go Xbox One if the online service manages to blow away PS4. but that seems unlikely this time around.

The term esports doesn't really refer to all competitive video gaming. It's more like the few games where players get lots of corporate sponsorship.

I think it's extremely difficult to appreciate what's going on in high level play without of a lot of experience in the genre or even the specific game, which is why I seriously doubt competitive gaming will ever have an audience like physical sports do.

I have tournament experience in one game which I no longer play, but I still follow the news about the scene and watch all of the tournaments because it's so fascinating to me. Video games have the potential to integrate many kinds of mental skills in a way nothing else really does, but it's hard to see that without investing a huge amount of time.

Looking for recommendations on games to play when I'm tired. Basically something to kill time when I don't have the focus for a challenge, but is still entertaining. Please don't suggest GTA5 as I'm waiting for the PS4 version.

Used to prefer IPAs, gravitating toward stouts now.

I've learned to use a controller for certain shooters that aren't on PC, but it never feels right. You don't have the same kind of freedom of movement. Doing something like instantly spinning to target something during a precisely directed jump is very difficult, for example. Navigating a stage feels sluggish since making turns is slower, and then there's the unnatural feeling of aiming at something without a 1:1 relationship to your hand movements. It always feels like what your're doing with the right control stick is a commitment since it will take a while to turn back to where you were looking before, whereas with a mouse you can turn one way and accomplish something, then back again or somewhere else almost instantly.

I do a lot of gaming on both consoles and PC, but I don't really play shooters on consoles anymore because it's just a far more restrictive experience. It's not that I don't think it's fun, it's that controlling a character in first person with a mouse in itself is fun to me because of the sense of motion it creates, and control sticks don't provide that.
