@Elutheria You're focus on the metaphor I provided is fair, since it was fallacious. So, let's reassert the argument I failed to make clear with my initial post.

Comparing pirating to rape is flawed and distasteful. The theft of material wealth is not comparable to what is stolen via rape. Your metaphor is so extreme and irrelevant that it weakens your argument.

@Venatorcruiser @Elutheria That was a flawed and distasteful metaphor. Pirating is to rape, games are to women, and expense is to sexy? Only thing rape and theft have in common are that they're criminal acts. If you're stealing sex, a more appropriate inappropriate metaphor would have been "I only refused to pay the hooker because she was expensive". Rape is more than an act of stealing sex; it's an aggressive, violating act that steals the victim's freedom.

@Anigmar Haha, it was a sad attempt to make a joke that you ruined the Star Wars saga by saying Darth Vader is Luke's father (assuming one watches them in the order of release). Would have worked better if Van Ord didn't just spoil the plot to Hitman: Absolution.

I know people like your friend, too. I refuse to refer to them as "friend" :D and always tell them (as soon as they ask if I've seen a movie yet) "No, so don't open your mouth again until you've figured something else to talk about."

@hector530 @colt_a I think colt_a was trying to point out the potential abuse of utilizing Kickstarter. When a publisher invests in a developer, they expect a financial return (profits repay the publisher's investment and then some). The publisher's investment insures the game will be developed with the publisher's interests because it is the publisher's gains at stake. When a group of individuals invests in a developer via Kickstarter, the return they will see (without guarantee) is the items that the individuals purchased. Regardless of how many copies are sold, there is no potential for a financial return (all profits, sans Kickstarter's fees, lead to the developer) for the group's investment. The representation the group controls is their initial investment. Once the project is funded, the developer has complete freedom of development.
