@shadowslayer30 It's good you realize a difference, that's the first step.
The problem is that customers are now forced to by pre order DLC in order to obtain the novelty items.
I'll put my reasoning into a perspective you mentioned.
Novelty Items = apples, DLC = oranges. Limited Edition is a common game naming convention for a "bag of apples".
Now, Halo 4 is reducing the number of apples we get and throwing in a few oranges to make up for it (not to mention most of the apples are digital, yuck, who wants to bite a digital apple?). But rather than leaving the price at $70, they're increasing it to $100. Whether or not those are some damn good oranges is for you to decide.
I think it would have been more appropriately titled Halo 4 Elite (bag of oranges) rather than Halo 4 Limited Edition (bag of apples). It's not me who's confusing apples from oranges, it's Microsoft that's selling a mixed bag of apples and oranges when usually it only has apples in it.
The people who just want the apples are stuck buying the oranges.
I remember when "maps" in a collector's edition meant you get a cloth version of the paper version already included with the game. The goodies were merely collectibles and art/music. It was only $10 more than the standard version and considered a good price point for hardcore fans. This meant $50 games had a $60 CE.
If we apply the same concept (goodies=$10), Halo 4 is priced at $90 for the complete game. Otherwise you can purchase the partial version for $60.
If maps and other DLC are considered goodies, then physical goodies are being converted to digital goodies and the price for the goodies has inflated 400%.
