I remember the good old days of gaming where I'd go down to my local game shop and pick up games like Thief 2, Deus Ex, Far Cry, Broken Sword etc. I'd pop them in the CD drive, wait for them to install and prepare myself for happy hours of uninterupted bliss.

Where did it all go wrong?!

What anoys me is how they show the game looking at its best running on PC for this demo, yet it probably won't be released until a couple of months after the console versions.

"We aren't trying to create disparity in the experience that our gamers enjoy...". What crap. They should optimize and make the game the best it can be on all platforms.

If that means refined controls, higher res textures, support for more screen resolutions and advanced processing effects for the PC platform, then implement it! Or make it a budget £19.99 purchase for PC owners.

This is why games like Borderlands 2 and DmC get my money, because I can see they've put some effort in to making a proper PC version. A sloppily ported Xbox verion does not.

Am I the only one that found this game equally frustrating as it was fun? It's a blast to jump in and mess around for a bit, but shooting a target was finnicky. You also couldn't see ore than 10ft in front of you because of the zoomed in camera. Hey ho, good memories though!

@SergioMX @mattcake The one big chain in England that rents media has just closed down, and given that the last 3 games since the reboot have had demos available for PC, I am tending to agree with mattcake.

@ViciousCloud How about ME 3? Yes, EA hired a separate dev team for the MP elements, but I for one would've much prefered them to throw cash at the SP portion of the game for a quicker delivery of the Extended Cut instead of all the pointless MP maps, guns and other microtransactional bullshit.

@thehawk3986 Completely agree with you. It's not just game companies either; Apple could release the iBrick and people would still be queuing up with their sleeping bags the night before the shop opened. I'm sure there are other examples too.

Fact is though, consumers will lap up whatever shit publishers put out there as long as it's got the right brand/series/logo on the box.

I'm all for AAA goodness, but if publishers can get away with pushing out the same old crap because they know they can get away with it and people will buy it regardless, then they will continue to do so.

Trying to prove this point to the masses though, is like banging your head against a brick wall, as they are the people buying the games and keeping the vicious circle rolling.

All I can say is thank God (or other celestial being of choice) for the Indie scene and projects like Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight.

Ontopic; Absolution does look good however, and I shall look forward to playing it.
