Just a heads up, wait about a week before picking up on pc. It won't load for a lot of people (including me) and the people who can load it have massive frame rate issues and alot of crashing.
The i-buy power and the cyber pro, or whatever those companies are called (the $500 ones) actually have pretty good specs for the price and would play most games on 1080p high settings at around 60-40fps without much of a problem.
What people also need to realise is that these systems are open, meaning windows can be installed on them either as dual boot or instead of steam OS, the components wil be upgradable with off the self parts so it can stay competitive and Its a PC so any new controller with a USB/Bluetooth/WIFI will work with it.
Steam OS is new and in beta (real beta, not marketing "beta") the kinks will be worked out if not by Valve than by the community. With Valve being able to chuck their weight behind it as the largest PC distribution platform new games will more than likely have a Linux/Steam OS version at the same time or just after the Windows version as well, which is pretty good as Microsoft has all but given up on PC gaming due to the closed system they have with the xbox.
Some of the steam boxes are over priced and under powered for the cost yes but those are the equivalent of the sports cars that people with too much money buy, the $500 price point are the one's to focus on as they great way for the curious to take their first plunge with a gaming rig.
I invested in a new gpu for my gaming rig to tide me over until MGSV comes out and prices come down a bit. Neither the PS4 or X1 have any exclusives that can justify the purchase yet.
@desert_thief Because they're talking specifically bout ps4 and xboxone launch numbers and arguing that only after a few months will the numbers become more important. The Wii U has had its honeymoon period and is really struggling, That Xbox one has sold more in a week in the uk than the wii u has sold in its fist year is really worrying for the console. Nintendo can survive on the 3ds just fine but the wii u is looking more and more like the game cube i.e. a fun niche product where a couple of good games will come out but is abandoned by the majority of consumers and 3rd parties.
@ihateds2 @corgansmate from the dev interview the single player mode is a conscription to the military so that will be all scripted events, I assume you'll be able to drop in and out of it when ever out of it want and take the online portion when ever you want. 0
@ihateds2 The game will be broken up into a single player campaign called squad 42 which is optional and then mmo bit. If the single player campaign is completed you can take our character into mmo with extra influence.
