Console Sales Numbers and Why They Don't Matter Right Now
Justin and Danny discuss why all the hype over console sales numbers mean next to nothing at this stage in the game.
Console sales mean nothing EVER for these two consoles. The two systems have sold a crap-ton and will continue to do so for the next year or so. Third party support is going to be huge on both systems, and gamers are going to have a sick awesome time with their system of choice. As long as neither tank Wii U-style, they're both going to be massively successful machines.
Both these systems are fine, and will continue to be fine over the course of the generation. Helps that both are being sold at a profit, of course.
Danny seriously you SOB, where did you get that awesome shirt? Once I saw this I started looking for it yet I can't find it.
If console sales numbers don't mater, then how come you've talked about it with the Wii U in Wednesday's the point, Danny? and you started criticizing how Wii U will survive in 2014, even though there are must-have titles for it?
This race in this gen is irrelevant... Last gen the race was about the bluray and HD DVD... So other than fanboys this will affect very little the rest.... X360 and PS3 till this day, compete at the same level, gaming wise...
I wonder if the guy buying the PS4 in that footage had to listen to the sales guy trying to convince him to get insurance for it. Great for any console launch.
"Congratulations, you've just purchased the very first PS4. By the way it might break at some point so you might want to think about our insurance options."
@desert_thief Because they're talking specifically bout ps4 and xboxone launch numbers and arguing that only after a few months will the numbers become more important. The Wii U has had its honeymoon period and is really struggling, That Xbox one has sold more in a week in the uk than the wii u has sold in its fist year is really worrying for the console. Nintendo can survive on the 3ds just fine but the wii u is looking more and more like the game cube i.e. a fun niche product where a couple of good games will come out but is abandoned by the majority of consumers and 3rd parties.
At least until he tells you something that you terribly disagree with. ;)
@ndmq He's right though at the moment sales numbers are limited based on the production limits.
Once the initial upsurge of sales is complete and like he says there is a stock of the console you want in stores.
That is when the production is exceeding demand and you get your sales numbers.
For Instance lets say XBox One produced 250,000 consoles for the first month and PS4 produced 1,000,000 and both sold out, by that the PS4 out sold xbox one 4 to 1 (the number we see at the moment)
but 6 months later and both companies produce 6,000,000 consoles and the Xbox one sold 5,500,000 and PS4 only sold 4,500,000 then in the end the Xbox One was more popular and had better sales (the number that actually matters).
Make a more detailed rebuke then - or perhaps you prefer to think that people that you disagree with are automatically clueless or ignorant?
