@Makhaidos: Stuff like that is stupid because they don't account for how much of the population is white. For instance 72% of the USA is white. No shit 71% of the bachelors degrees are held by whites. It would make no sense if that was a 50-50 split.

Actually I'm pretty sure that thing about the bachelors degrees is just wrong. I think what they meant was 71% of white people have a bachelors (obviously not true) and 29% of black people have a bachelors. This wikipedia page says around 33% of white people have a bachelors and around 20% of black people have a bachelors.

Oh and the prison thing is because guess what, black people are way more likely to break the law. It's shitty and probably because of where they grew up, but that huge number of blacks in prison isn't purely due to racism.

  2. Hunger Games 2
  3. Man of Steel
  4. Walter Mitty
  5. Anchorman 2

I think that's actually all the movies that came out this year that I've seen.

Eh I'm disappointed it's a prequel. It was fine the way it was, and if anything they should've done a sequel if you ask me.

I don't see the point of that channel anymore. Why sit around and wait for what you want to hear when you can look it up right away?

I disagree, having Joel do anything else would've been out of character. There was no way he was going to let Ellie be killed regardless of whether she was the cure. And the whole game is linear and scripted, why were you expecting anything different at the end? At the end you're supposed to see that Joel isn't really a good guy. I mean you've been shown lots of times that he's a scary dude. His brother was scared of him, he tortured and killed two people even though killing them was unnecessary, he doesn't bat an eye at killing around 100 people, etc. Oh and the second the doctor picked up the knife, I shot him in the face.

Its not that the game is linear, its that you are given the illusion of choice -- it reminded of a KOTOR choice except there was no choice.

There is no choice so why put us in predicament that makes you feel like there is some choice?

Especially in that one where the guard are beating at the door and they say you have to make an instant decision...when there is no decision to be made. And then to lie to her, setting the foundation of a relationship built upon a lie? Meaning its a relationship that is meant to fail.

I don't remember that "choice" with the guard, you'll have to remind me about that. That stuff never bothered me because they probably wanted to put you in Joel's shoes and actually execute the action regardless of what his decision was. I think that's more impactful than just watching a cutscene.

Why does their relationship need to succeed? Ellie probably knew within minutes of waking up an idea of what happened, my guess was that she understood what he did to an extent and although it bothered her, she let it slide because at that point they were codependent.

A sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. The first two thirds of that game is some of the finest RPG I've ever played.

Oh and Age of Mythology 2. I liked AoM way better than AoE mostly because of the setting.

I adamantly maintain that GTA V is the more deserving, but The Last of Us is a great game (even with its shit ending)

How's the ending shitty? I thought it was completely in character for Joel to do what he did. It was predictable that bad shit was gonna happen when they got to the hospital but nothing wrong with that.

I'm glad GS still has spoiler stuff:

Starting at the hospital and fighting through all of the (I forget what they are so I'll call them the Resistance) Resistance troops felt too backwards from what you were doing the rest of the game where you were either hiding from Infected or killing bandits and vagabonds - these where real people with families and were only trying to do what they believed in (Winter was my favorite part not only because it was a growing period for Ellie, Joel and the player but because you actually felt like you had just accomplished something unbelievable -- I still maintain that Winter is one of the greatest segments ever to be put into a video game, the feelings where almost too much and reuniting Joel and Ellie was sublime.) and you were slaughtering them for your own selfish reasons.

Then comes the doctor sequence where the player is presented with the illusion of choice - which is the absolute worst thing a designer can do in a video game in my mind. To put us in that position is a low-down dirty trick....because at the end of the day and no longer how long you wait the doctor is going to die, Joel is going to pick up Ellie and while leaving kill that women in the parking garage who is also only doing what she believes (trying to save humanity).

So in the end you damn humanity all for the sake of one man who can't stand to lose his daughter...again.

So to go from intriguing in the beginning to very good to damn near perfection in Winter to a slap in the face and being told 'this is the way it is'....is a shit ending.
