The best multiplayer games from 7th gen

Which game really pushed multiplayer last gen? For me it's gotta be Battlefield 3/4 (PC). I really enjoyed the huge epic battles with 64 players, and not feeling like the game was compromised because of it. The graphics were amazing, and there were lots of modes and features and vehicles to use. And the maps were HUGE. Now that next gen is here, I would hope consoles can expand on this. Like more players, better graphics, more features and modes. To me, bigger is better. How about you? What was your favorite multiplayer from last gen?

Its probably safe to say that the moba genre pushed the boundaries this generation. League of Legends and DoTA 2 are monsters.

MMORPGs are stuck in the WoW-clone rut STILL.

BF3/4 were ok, not as good as BF2 for its time though. they are by far the most emmersive online shooter though.

COD4 was probably the one I spent the most time with from a competitive stand point... For coop I'd say one of my favorites was Resident Evil 5. So many others too, both small and large studio games.... Battleblock theater, Magika, Trials Evolution, Payday, Killing Floor.... my god there are so many.

The best I played all last gen was by far Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition 2012. It's pretty much the most balanced fighter I've ever played. It's not too offensive, it's not too defensive, and it has a good deal of footsies and appropriate combos. You have to get yourself in, do the damage that you can, then try to get in again.

Demon Souls was pretty innovative with its online features.

Probably COD or L4D.

Go easy on the lems. They don't have much to brag about except Timed DLC and microtransactions. LOL

"Best" is subjective. My favorites include Uncharted 2/3, Red Dead Redemption, The Last of Us, Mass Effect 3, and RE5.

How could I forget minecraft?

Mobas and Minecraft.... biggest influence on this generation's MP.

and ofcourse, call of duty MW for shooters.

damn this generation lasted too long.....

Halo 3 was probably the MP I spent most time with. After that I stopped playing competitive online MP.

COD 4 was pretty good but I liked Black Ops 1 better.

Bad Company 2 is a pretty solid contender

Gears 3 Horde Mode was amazing

I spent alot of time with Tekken 6 and SF4 also

This past year alone Injustice was pretty sick

I want to consider Smash Bros but the lag on the online MP was terrible

Mario Kart Wii was a blast

Awww mad that no PS3 exclusive is even being considered?

Rainbow Six: Vegas .

Holy shit, yes!

for me:

Dawn of War 2 - fast paced and action packed RTT game with lots of personality

World in Conflict - similar to above but with amazing teamwork and some of the biggest explosions of the gen

L4D2 - amazing in Versus mode, great fun when you have a good, close game

Chivalry - GYAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAH

Natural Selection 2 - really interesting asymmetrcical competitive shooter/RTS hybrid

Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm - a superbly designed, atmospheric and satisfying competitive WW 2 FPS

Bad Company 2 - my favourite game from the BF series this gen, lots of fun despite some glitches

the Battlefield series was a big one for me personally, COD though is undoubtedly more popular and influential in other developers trying to achieve the same results by tacking on multiplayer

My top game was Monster Hunter Tri. Spent a couple hundred hours on Gears 3, CoDBO2 was my favourite FPS, RE revelations was kinda fun but thats a curent gen game kinda, Street Fighter 4 was fun for a while but my favourite Beat em Up if and when I could get a match was Tatsunoko Vs Capcom.

Have almost 2k hours between League and Dota 2 (mostly League). The amount of "must play" games I've missed out on this gen is a bit silly. Starting to catch up on them though...
