@vasilymk Say what you will about tobacco companies and pharmaceutical companies, but none of them are actively working to destroy their own industry. EA is.

@saint311 I don't even know why I bother responding to you now. You don't even know how the F2P model works. That model is dependant on people getting addicted. I'm not generalizing, this is the fact that studies show and F2P creators admit. Most people will play it for a bit and not buy anything. Then there's a userbase that pays an insignificant amount. The 'whales', the people who get addicted and can't help but buy tokens and gems obsessively, are really the only reason any F2P model is profitable. You CANNOT be profitable without taking advantage of their mental illness. So YES, it is unethical you prick.

Your entire second paragraph isn't even worth arguing. You admit fully that it isn't right, and yet that's still good business psychology? Taking credit for others work makes your company worse. Period.

@saint311 they don't have to be the first ones to do it. They are a Juggernaut in the industry, thus any practices they adopt, original or otherwise, will trend. They remain profitable despite all this practices, and sometimes specifically BECAUSE the practices are bad policy. Just because a concept makes good money doesn't mean it's a good concept. Free to play for example, takes advantage of the most susceptible in society to addiction. Get people hooked on buying tokens and gems, and of course it's going to be profitable. Nobody in their right mind thinks that's a good thing though.

This IS their actual work. They aren't game developers, they are the publisher pushing horrible business practices and destroying the industry with it.

@Zloth2 @michyeosseo that's before this always-online thing was semi-confirmed by a microsoft studios creative director. Microsoft will eventually confirm it at a big disappointing conference and next year it'll run all the higher in the WCIA competition because Microsoft actively lied, saying "his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products"

EA will beat ticketmaster and Bank of America yet again, because they still insist on destroying their industry.

@saint311 @WCK619 online only DRM requirements, microtransactions, day 1 DLC, cutting off servers for online-only games, free-to-play. These are all ideas that EA actively touts as the future of the industry, and puts it into practice time and time again, proving that they're failed concepts but ignoring the failure part. They are the largest company to be doing all this at once, and they are industry leaders. Other companies follow their lead to devastation of gaming and to the frustration of gamers. Chief operating officer Peter Moore made a blog post that those working at EA are PROUD of their work. They are PROUD of all these bad decisions and they are PROUD of where they are taking the industry. This is proof to me that they're actively working to destroy their own industry.
