Honestly what is Nintendo thinking as indie games might be a way to bring in customers as I know A) Microsoft's being nicer to them and B) Sony's been nice to them. One of the draws to the Wii was nichey games. Considering how much of a massive underdog the Wii U is, they need every edge they can get. The Xbone seems hell bent on getting out of the hole they dug themselves.

It partially reeks of insecurity as japanese indie developers tend to make the same kinds of games Nintendo does, but possibly better perhaps. If Nintendo is to regain its former position, it's going to take more than their first party titles

@YearoftheSnake5 @desert_thief I'm not sure if western indies would be quick to develop for a system not many other companies are interested in. That and this move might affect that as if they turn away japanese indies, who to say the western ones wouldn't get turned away soon after.

@genjuroT Indie doesn't exactly mean tactics when it comes to the japanese: it'd be far more likely to mean shmups or creative action games.

I'm not sure what Nintendo was thinking with bare thread remakes of old games as it's what put the series at the brink but the FE team turned things around quite nicely. Hopefully they'll keep up such a momentium.

@ImperialPanda I think it was needed as the two DS FEs were pretty basic games barely qualifying as remakes lacking in extra things. Awakening basically made up for that big time.

I'm hoping this is going to be some sort of different Snake (Not Naked or Solid) as it's the only way to justify such a thing. Otherwise this won't go unnoticed by fans completely used to David voicing both Snakes in all the games they appeared in (no small number)

@Oakals I think it was done to counter the complaints of reusing the ATB system (never mind the tweaks made with each game). There might have been the matter of the "first game on PS3" pressure as it seems a big leap is expected even now. But I could spend all day speculating on the intent. All we know for sure is that it basically failed.

@shadowboy88 @StriderTuna @pakhair @Lost-to-Apathy @marcsmashing I have no preference really, though most FF players are used to something more methodical compared to FFXIII

@pakhair @StriderTuna @franzito Well in FF, there's a point where the whole world opens up and you can plot your own course, usually with the airship. VI did this pretty well as after getting the Falcon, it was a matter of figuring out where everyone is and going about recruiting them. And in doing so you find out how people are dealing with the World getting some new ones torn into it.

I dislike grinding in general; it's something games like tales make easier as you can have other goals with those battles (improving combos, etc)

@PixelAddict @StriderTuna It doesn't help that God of War has QTE (and likely it's what made it popular), the issue with adjusting to the western market is that it doesn't really want what japanese companies have to offer and it's hard to make a game that gets both them while retaining the series'/company's original fans.

If you went with purely western market suggestions in making a specially made version, we'd end up with something like a bald angry megaman who can only have two guns
