Thanks guys, just installed & played it then.

One word - AWESOME! This game is so much fun, I just hope it has a bit of lastability. It seems as though you can go through it within a matter of hours. Ah well, I'll have fun while it lasts I guess.

Why would you ever want to use a controller for the pc? Mouse + keyboard is always better. Yes I have played Prototype and the mouse + keyboard is better then the controller.blade55555

Well with 3rd person games like this and Spiderman, Hulk etc I prefer using a controller.

I purchased Prototype earlier today, and when I got home I realised I can't find my Xbox 360 controller ANYWHERE, and I was looking for hours.

Therefore, I was just wondering if it's easily playable without a controller? E.g. just using the keyboard & mouse. I'd try it out myself but I don't wanna unpackage it & install it to try only to find out that playing without a controller is horrible, as I won't be able to return it once it's been opened.

Thanks.

Kozzy, thanks for those suggestions. It seems many are suggesting TF2, so we may end up getting that. Unreal 2k4 we played years ago so if we were gonna play UT again we'd probably get UT3. Speaking of which, have you any idea if it's any good?

We've played Vegas 2 & all the Call of Duties unfortunately. And yes Jango, mainly we're just looking for a decent FPS to play online together which is fast paced & nothing at all like Arma II.

Yeah I meant Hell's Highway. Left 4 Dead could be a decent choice, I'll look into it.

My friend and I have been looking for a decent First Person Shooter which has online play for a while now, although we can't make our minds up as to which game to get. We used to play games such as the following together & got loads of fun out of them:

- Battlefield 2

- Battlefield 2142

- Counter Strike: Source

- Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

- Call Of Duty including all the expansions etc

- Unreal Tournament 2004

These are all pretty fast paced & require some teamwork, therefore it was fun for us as we'd talk over Vent and move around together in order to complete objectives etc. We then bought Arma II around a week ago, but ended up returning it to the shop as it didn't really have the fast paced type of atmosphere we were so used to. It was more of a simulator than an actual 'game' really.

Anyway, we're now looking for a fairly new game which matches our criteria, therefore if you guys can recommend anything decent I'd really appreciate it. We were thinking of something like Team Fortress 2 or maybe Brothers in arms 3? We're not sure. We were even considering rebuying CS:Source each as we both lost our original copies, but maybe there's something better out there now.

Oh and one last thing I should add is that we got a lot of enjoyment out of ranking up & being able to check our stats online, although this is just a plus really and doesn't particularly matter.

Thanks a lot.

A friend just told me this could be due to having VSync enabled which is causing something called "input lag" whilst playing. If anybody can shed some light on whether this IS the cause or not, that'd be great.

ManicAce
Vsync basically matches(caps) your framerate to your monitors refresh rate to prevent screen tearing. It can cause performance decrease but it should be constant in that case. Still there's no harm disabling it, I never have vsync on.

The only problem there is that the game doesn't have a setting to turn VSync off. I'll have to do it manually, although having looked around I haven't been able to find any way of doing it, although I may not have looked hard enough.

And to ManicAce above, I have nothing overclocked. Everything is running at store speed. Also, the max my GPU temperature has gone to whilst playing Arma II is around 82c. I'm not sure whether this is normal or not really, but I read somewhere that 8800 cards tend to get really hot? I don't know. The inside of my PC is extremely clean anyway as I use a can of compressed air on it every week or so.

I installed Arma 2 yesterday and have been playing for a little while now, although I've come across a problem which is EXTREMELY annoying to say the least. Anyway, my specs are below so you can see what I'm running the game on:

OS - Windows XP Home (SP3)
CPU - Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.0ghz
Ram - 3.5gb DDR II
Video Card - 640mb Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS
Nvidia Drivers - 185.85
Power Supply - Thermaltake Toughpower 750w

When loading the game I ALWAYS make sure I close all unecessary background processes such as Anti Virus software, Virus Scanners, etc so that the game runs with around only 20-25 processes running in the background. Anyway, the problem I'm having is that when the game loads up & I start playing the gameplay is smooth as hell with no lag whatsoever which is great. Then around 10 minutes later, all of a sudden I'll just start 'lagging' (not sure if I can really call it lag, but I can't think of any other word for it) for no reason. For example, I'll move my mouse to look around the screen & it'll take almost twice as long for my character to respond & to follow that order, basically the gameplay goes from really fast/smooth to really slow and I have no idea why.

I mean it's not like it's even occuring during a massive firefight with loads of stuff going on, as I've not even tried that yet. This is happening in Boot Camp Basic Training with hardly ANYTHING going on, which is weird. I had this exact same problem with the game 'Fallout 3' and it caused me to uninstall it (smooth gameplay at the start, then all of a sudden it'd completely slow down & my character's responses would become really slow etc). I REALLY don't want to have to uninstall Arma II aswell, as it looks amazing & I'd love to sort this problem out.

I've also taken a picture of my ingame Video Options, so that you can take a look if need be & let me know if I should change anything, although like I said above the game runs smooth as hell with no lag at all during the first 5-10 mins of gameplay, so if it was something to do with the video options ingame, it wouldn't run smooth at all would it?

So if any of you guys are able to help me out, I'd very much appreciate it, thanks in advance!
