6 hours left. Hold me.dvader654
Uh, I think I'll spoon with my girlfriend instead... no offense, dvader. Best Buy will have my copy at 11 tomorrow, so about eighteen hours for me. Oh, and I have a test on Monday, which limits my time with Skyward. -_-

[QUOTE="Oilers99"] Why is this game coming out now, anyway? Are they purposely burying it under Skyward Sword, Skyrim, MW3, Battlefield 3 and Assassin's Creed 2.2?c_rake

I have no idea. Very dumb move on their part, though. Game doesn't have much of a chance at success at this point.

I have a feeling this game might get ICO'd/Beyond Good and Evil'd... a great game that gains attention from passionate fans after the buzz around the season's biggest games dies down.

Interesting. When there is a thread discussing reviews in general, or a thread discussing a high profile game that people like to trash, the general consensus here is: "It's a shame that review sites hand out 8s/9s/10s like candy to high profile games. It would be so much better if they stood up to the money/influence of publishers, used the whole numeric scale, and reserved high scores only for truly exceptional games ." Yet, here we are getting a lot of posts saying that Zelda should automatically get a high score simply because it's a high profile game. (Note, since no one has played the game yet, that is all the Zelda support comes down to at this time: people who believe that reviewers owe Zelda a better score simply because it is Zelda.)

Hmmm… maybe that explains why the GS score is an outlier -- GS is standing up against the big bad publishers who try to coerce high scores for their high profile games. What? No takers for the GS stands for the little man theory? Yeah, but you have to admit that if GS had given CODMW3 an outlier score of 7.5, that theory would definitely have had a lot more traction here.

Personally, I like when reviewers go against the crowd because it gives people a chance to show their true colors. If you say you believe that reviewers shouldn't hand out scores like candy, but it turns out that you only agree with that principle when it applies to games that you don't personally like – it definitely says something about your real stance on bias and subjectivity in review scores.

it's not a simple issue. It's not necessarily the same people complaining for one. And the issue seems to be less with GameSpot using the range of scores... and more with concerns about whether or not this is a fair read on a game... that is currently receiving much higher scores just about everywhere else, and being praised for a number of elements that GameSpot criticizes Skyward Sword for. It's a difficult thing to make sense of without the game to make sense of it. Speaking personally, I simply think there are some problems with GameSpot's idea of videogames being on a constant upward slope that leads them to be unhelpful for me in some purchasing decisions, and that inability to trust their read more fully makes this review... well, should I be more cautious about Skyward Sword or not? I don't know whether the flaws are real, or if it's part of a pattern that I have noticed with them that I very much do not like.

[QUOTE="Oilers99"][QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]I want to play it but there's just so much other great stuff this holiday that I've put it on hold. And given that it's a Ubisoft game, I'd imagine it'll drop in price really fast.Metamania

AC 2.2? I honestly have NO IDEA where you got that from. Is it because it's still part of the AC II storyline? Maybe so, but AC Revelations has the same gameplay that remains the same while bringing in changes that haven't been seen in either ACII or Brotherhood, for that matter. You have played AC Revelations, haven't you? Or not yet?

I am writing this on a iPad's built in keyboard. Shorthand is at a premium. -_-

[QUOTE="thelordofpies"]

why don't they remake it.?

Oil_rope_bombs
Too hard. I remember them saying once that it would take AT LEAST 7 years to make FF VII

Lies. Plenty of more difficult to produce games are created in far less.

Didn't have time for it? They are usually shorter than other games:? I always buy them on XBL. You just gotta be able to weed out the shovelware from the gems and sites/mags help with that.Dracula68
Shh... Stop making sense... The poster's friend does not have time to listen to reason.

[QUOTE="smerlus"]Turn based combat was necessary for table top RPGs as everyone rolling dice at once to imitate real time would be chaotic. CPU's are able to "roll" the required dice and crunch the numbers as fast as a player can press a button. The word "strategy" seems to always get attached to TB combat but i've seriously never seen a single RPGs that requires even an ounce of as much strategy as chess. the "strategy usually amounts to nothing more than rock/paper/scissors (fire beats ice, electricity beats water...) I think real time is the natural revolution of combat in RPG's but unfortunately developers really don't put nearly as much effort in making it challenging and well balanced.

Tactical depth, though. Dragon Age routinely kicks my butt, and stopping to issue specific commands is the only sensible thing.

Good. Turn based combat is ****ing archaic.

YoungSinatra25
Totally. Chess players are silly to the extreme. Imagine, playing a game that has been around for centuries!

Because it is their ace in the hole for when they need a big old cash cow. Which is dumb, because I think the sweet spot for the remake was the game's 10th anniversary. Either that, or they wanted a Final Fantasy VI remake first.
