The onl[y way to "crack it" is to first hack the executable so it doesn't connect to Battlnet, and then create a homebrewed server. Which means you or someone else, ro a team fo someone elses needs to CREATE ALL OF THE QUESTS AND AI, ETC FROM SCRATCH.

Not gonna happen.

Presumably, once you have played the complete game through all that data will have passed through your internet connection, so you could just use Wireshark to siphon it off and use that data to reconstruct a non-Blizzard server?

I would say that World in Conflict is your best choice just as it was for me being somewhat of a noob at RTS games.
I really like World in Conflict as before this game I really disliked all RTS games, because to me they are all boring as you have to construct an economy and then build an army. The company who made this games said that it is not a traditional RTS game as it is is more of a RTT(Real-time tactics) game, because you do not construct an economy and then build an army as all you really need to do is kill the enemy.
Realistically for what World in Conflict is about with the surprise attack on the US soil the building of an economy or bases is useless, because everything is already there just as it would be already since the locations are in cities and small towns and rural areas. As for building an army that would be useless too because there already is an army like the US Army and the other US Armed Forces.

This one gets my vote. Demo is available on Steam.

Decent squad mechanics and AI, that's what I would like to see.

Nope Linux is no OS, it's just a cool thing made for free by its community, it gets no actual support from most companies, I'm not "niche" and cool enough to pretend Linux is a viable option.DanielDust
If you define OS as 'thing that my games run on' then you have a point, otherwise not so much.

You need to activate the DLC content manually, there is some option somewhere or other - maybe in the Games For Windows menu (cant remember, it is along time since I did it).

They are both good, but for a top quality RTS get World In Conflict instead.

Personally I'm more interested in the single player, seems like they're really trying to stay in canon to the Ailens franchise.

Provided that it is a squad-based shooter, I agree.

With modern PC games, your framerate is far more dependent on your graphics card rather than your CPU.
