Ok it says DDR two channel memory on the case so i guess its DDR2 ? And that video card that i bougth is ok ?telefanatic

That would be dual channel DDR, not DDR2... which suggests a 939 socket CPU/Motherboard. Are you sure the motherboard on that computer supports PCI-E video cards (like the one you bought) and not just AGP? Does it say anywhere on the box PCI-Express (PCI-E) or AGP graphics/video support?

and don't go with that psu because case+psu combo pretty much sucks

quocthai

If he sticks with the x1650 or even goes up to a X1950Pro, that PSU will be good. It is better than most generic "500Watt" PSUs. Its anEnermax and has 27A on the 12V rails.

Now if you want to go with the 8800GTS or higher, I would definitely go with something a little stronger.

aye, i got another question, if i upgraded the ram and vid card, would this processor be able to handle Bioshock? or maybe crisis on low settings? Idk how this CPU is compared to core 2 duos.six_shot

It is pretty close to a E4300 in most games, so the CPU would let you play Bioshock or Crisis... But if you put in a higher end video card, you will probably need a better PSU too.

The stock cooler on the Q6600 is fine for normal use... If you plan to overclock, I would suggest spending $20 on ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail... It's a great cooler for the price.

Performance wise, it would actually be a step down from a X1950Pro to a 8600. If you want DX-10, I suggest spending a bit more for the 8800GTS.

76ers was right, you can't really get it below $450. I was able to put together a slightly better system (dual-channel RAM, better vid, bundle deal on HD and save a bit on Enermax case with PSU) all for about $455 including Windows. If you don`t need Windows, that drops to $365.

I would suggest Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM if he supports SATA or Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200AAJB 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM if only IDE. Either one is $75.
