i just upgraded from a ati 1900gt to a 8800gts 630 mb because neweggs return policy wasnt what i thought it was, but i am happy, but the only problem is that while the card is alot quiter than my last....it makes my powersupply screech. with my old card i had to be playing a game to get my powersupply to make the noise that its making, its like when the fan goes to fast or something along those lines, i wasnt tooo woried about it till today when i started up my computer and went to windows explorer and it froze just changing some network properties. i played bioshock yesterday with no problems but i am worried that my powersupply is inadiqute for my system now, i also just upgraded to 2 gigs of ram. can you suggest a good powersupply that will have no problems running my system for now and a while to come? my budget goes up to about 100 dollars but obviously the least the better.

i was thinking about going this rought but had never seen anything like it, is it ok?

Your main power supply is junk. It'd be better to replace it with a quality one than to just take the load off your main one.

Your old power supply sounds like it's on the way out - or at the very best, your power supply fan is on the way out, and if that goes your power supply will quickly follow. I'd be rather concerned about my computer actually working.

Or if that is too expensive, you should be OK with Antec Basiq BP500U ATX12V Version 2.01 500W Power Supply for $60 and free shipping.

I would get one of those. I have the 620W and it is rock solid. It runs my e6600 and 8800GTS 640MB great. If you worried about future proof the 620W is the way to go. It can handle 8800GTX SLI. Do not cheap out on the PSU. It is the most important part of a computer.

I agree. I actually have a similar setup. Only diffs are monitor, soundcard, O/S, Mobo, my cpu isn't OC'd (at the moment), and I've got 3gb ram. Nice build and good advice ;) HX620W has such a nice overvoltage capacity :) I'll probably end up picking up another 8800GTS or a single newer model at some point.
