That will be a nice system!

Like everyone else says, if you're gonna get an OS, get Vista.

If you want to spend an extra $140, you can get the MSI 8800GTX clocked at 610/2000 (vs. 575/1800 standard for GTX)

I wouldn't pay the difference to go from E6750 to E6850... you might consider going to the Q6600 and overclock a bit.
A great inexpensive cooler if you want to OC (E6750 or Q6600)is ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler.

The Antec *might* power your system? Hell no, it'll easily power your system. Even if you upgrade to a new card, the NeoHE 550W should handle it without a problem unless nVidia/ATi make cards that use 400Ws under load or something... which would be retarded.

If you feel like paying for a 650W power supply when you don't need it, then go ahead.

Hiryuu_

The Antec NeoHE 550W will definitely handle that... It's on the ATI/AMD list of certified power supplies for a single HD2900XT. http://ati.amd.com/products/certified/powersupplies.html#pstop

And for $50 after rebate and free shipping,it's a steal!

I would suggest something like

OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

for $140 - $35 Mail-In Rebate.

You might be able to get by with something cheaper, but I wouldn't suggest it... it depends on the rest of your components.

Do you have a QX6850,4GB,dual 10K RPM Raptors in RAID plus another data drive, dual DVD drives, etc.
or do you have an E6550, 2GB, single 7200 RPM HD, single DVD, etc.
... and ... do you want to be able to upgrage later?

My main system has X1900 A-I-W... other systems in the house are X800XL and 9800Pro.

If you follow the online sites and forums, then you will find all of the print magazines out of date by comparison. It doesn't take long for the best xxx part to become second best.

Actually, I recommend a better budget cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7/64 Pro

For Intel/AMD

Thats the same one a guy posted earlier, and hes right. Its got really good reviews and is cheap. Can't beat that.

shanelevy

I would go with the OCZ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010 for a better price (even before the mail-in rebate) and better specs.

yeah I know its cheaper with ncix but I live in toronto not BC. also the 2900 is a little overkill but I'm thinking it will last longer than the 320mg gts. filmography

That was kinda the point... I live near Toronto too and order from NCIX/DirectCanada so I don't have to pay PST.

Just noticed that you want to build this weekend... I guess that kills the mail order option.

Best of luck with the build... you should be happy with your system on either the 8800GTS or 2900.

E6750 and 3GB

Edit: Just Kidding... E6550 or E6750 and 2GB is great for now. You can always add more RAM later if you need it... probably for less than you would pay up front. If you do a lot of photo/video editing or rendering, you would get more bennefit from a Q6600. (and an extra gig)

4GB won't all be recognized by 32-bit versions of Windows... you only get 3 to 3.5GB.
