Because something being "girlish" automatically makes it terrible right? Final Fantasy games are usually aimed at teenage boys. It was a fair change of pace.
It's kind of hard to take IGN's review seriously when their 9.2 is the second highest score on Metacritic. The current Meta-average is 79%. GameSpot isn't too far off.
Aw, not necessarily Final Fantasy 4 for instance is fantastic! Oh.. you mean the 4th edition of a game within the same generation? Absolutely. In that case Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed should be getting capped at 5's and 6's in the review score department.
As for developers being ok with 7/10, if the game sells so be it. Look at Madden.
How often do you get someone like Ellen Page starring in a videogame? Also, I think Beyond: Two Souls is one of the few examples of videogame quality actually going up.
Two "Big" games that consist of 2 RTS's, one of which that is an expansion pack. I have nothing against the PC as a platform, but it really needs a larger variety of on-disc exclusives beyond RTS's and MMO's. I don't hate RTS's but the genre can feel tired at times. I also don't like the "over-addictness" and recurring payments of MMO's.
