Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD for worldwide release

Update: First gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 HD released.

'

Update: Square Enix has released a gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD. The end of the trailer says the game will be available in 2013.

Original Story: Square Enix has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of the Final Fantasy X HD remake will come with sequel Final Fantasy X-2.

Earlier this week, Japanese manga magazine Shonen Jump announced the news for Japan, but now Square Enix has confirmed that the bundle will be available worldwide

While the two games will be bundled together on one disc for the PlayStation 3, the PlayStation Vita versions of Final Fantasy X and X-2 will be sold separately.

Square Enix also released a new batch of screenshots for the game, comparing the new HD remaster with the original PlayStation 2 role-playing game.

No release date or price is currently mentioned, but Square Enix will release an official announcement trailer for the game on March 25.

The HD remake of 2001's Final Fantasy X was announced at the Tokyo Game Show in 2011.

Square brings out the hate in me.

This is the last good FF game and it deserves a rerelease but with it's rerelease Square continues to refuse to give the consumer what we want which is FFVII remaster.

I will never buy another square product until they stop sticking thier middle finger in my face.

They won't release FFVII because to them it admits artistic and creative failure, I think we've crossed that bridge.

I wish it were coming to the 360 =(

They should remake classics that would actually benefit from current-gen graphics, voice acting, the works, such as Final Fantasy 6. But I understand that it wouldn't be as profitable as a new game, and even I wouldn't spend as much as for a game I haven't played before.

The trailer wasn't that amazing tbh. I was jumping at the prospect of a HD release as I was completely besotted with it on the PS2 and well I'm not too certain now. It'll be in widescreen which is great but I'm not too sure I'll pick this up.

I think the problem regarding the HD version is that Tidus looks like he has less of an expression.  The lighting, his face and skin look emotionless and with less of an impression in the HD version.

Well, I don't have a vita otherwise I would buy it. FFX was the last final fantasy I really enjoyed, so I'd love to play it in HD.

A puzzling decision to release X when there seems to be a much larger demand for VII.  Hopefully it turns out well for Square.  There are quite a few comments here that seem positive with anticipation for X in HD.  Good on them, it is always awesome when you get good news about games you love.

This is for sure going to be one of the Coolest HD Remakes out there! This looks beutiful! The fact its bundled with both games make it so much better, Im gonna go out on a limb and say that if you notice most HD Games with 2 games are usually $40, i think its safe too say that it will be in that range.

The original game looks beautiful in its original resolution on the PS2.

That's not to say that the up-scaled version is ugly or anything, far from it, I simply find the original to be fine. And I do have a Vita without anything grand to play, so this is a must buy for me.

No reason to get these if you already have the originals. You're just giving money to a company that screwed a beloved series and now comes to you with puppy eyes begging for help.

Meh.  Tidus is the worst FF protagonist of all time.  It was a test in patience to put up with his whining through out the whole game.  Now if they'd release a HD remastered version of DQ7, that would be awesome.  IMO, that was the last great classic RPG before they f***ed up the battle system.

Yay so X will get the emulator treatment finally lol. The question is, why aren't the PS1 games smoothed like an emulator? Cuz you know you can charge $20 more SE?

Amazon says 39.95 and available on December 31, 2013. Is that a placeholder for pre-orders?

First of all to those saying FF7 wouldn't be profitable to remake think again. It's one of the most played FF game to date and has a huge fan base. They would easily make the money back and much more. They stated though at this point it's not because of costs that they won't remake it, it's because they want a new FF game that is as good or better than FF7 was (which the way they're managing SE lately i doubt it'll ever happen.. sigh). And on to the second part of my comment.... I REALLY hope that add the dark aeons in the North American release of the HD remake for FFX. I always wanted to play that portion of the game. I did everything in the game but never got to experience that because they cut it out of the N.A. version.. Here's hoping!

My biggest decision would be to get it on PS3 or PS Vita. I think I will get the game on Vita to give me something new to play on handheld. I just wish that they could put both cartidages in one box.

@blamix99 Indeed. FF7 is my favorite and i really dont want a remaster or a remake for it, cause im afraid Square-Enix will ruin it very hard.

Rizer

@stevenrkorea Yes, but an FF7 would practically have to be remastered from scratch. It'd be very expensive to bring it up to date considering just how long that game was. It'd probably have the price tag of several new games put together. I'd love to see it happen, but I am guessing it would be quite a gamble for Square Enix.

slainta

@stevenrkorea I really don't know how many times this must be repeated: FF X HD is just a port to an HD console, a FF VII remake would be a… remake indeed. The whole game would need to be developed again from scratch. This is the time schedule:

- HD Port -> few months

- HD remake -> years

Especially FF VII HD would probably be the largest game SE has ever made.

ThaddeusK
ThaddeusK

@stevenrkoreaIt is leaps and bounds easier to remaster a PS2 game for the PS3 than a PS1 game. They would need to recreate every asset of a PS1 game, where you can get away with some texture upgrades and some fancier 3D rendering techniques on a PS2 game. Easy money.

BSEE10
BSEE10

@stevenrkorea IMO, FFVII is a last resort for Square. As for RPG turn-base genre, X must be the last of its kind, reason why Square love it so.

@BradBurns

if this two games come out on SD cards I'll probably buy them for my vita but if they don't I'll probably just avoid them altogether I'm not a digital guy I prefer a physcial medium.

@renegator i odnt think on december, maybe before, the price i think is right

slainta

@Darklink9009 @Lost-to-Apathy @csward It doesn't matter. They are remasters, running the native Cell CPU code. Which means there will be the (mandatory) addition of trophies and they will run like any other PS3 game. The emulated ones disable the in-game XMB for example. The FMVs might be remastered at 720p (1080p?) as well. Also look at Tidus sceenshots, the face has been reworked, probably adding more polygons.
