I use one of these from my original Xbox, wired to USB like so:

http://www.fury-tech.com/en/Guides/Xbox-Controller-PC-Conversion-Mod

And using the most up-to-date XBCD drivers, and with a little tweaking, it's the perfect cheap controller with familar-feeling buttons and whatnot. If anyone goes this route, the driver has trouble with EA Sports games for PC, but I think I may be one of few people to get fully around the problem (right analog stick not working for tricks and the like), so message me and I can help you out. I recommend this for anyone with any old Xbox controller (wireless ones may work too, that's be awesomely cheap for wireless if you already have it and don't use it), and a spare end wire for USB (everyone should have at least one of these somewhere).

I haven't ever had any troubles with them. Once your download is done you just go into the cache and backup the files for the game you just got, then install and you're on your way. The 6 month limit thing obviously isn't as cool as Steam's forever policy, but if you back up the file then that part is not a worry. The download speeds are excellent and overall I just don't see how it's so terrible.

Yeah I was really planning on the Galactic Edition as well, but I couldn't really justify the added cost with what is included in the package.

But what you said about buying a game retail, then being able to download it in the future is pretty much what Blizzard did with quite a few of its big titles, so the possibility is out there, but not too many companies are raking in as much cash as Blizzard (I guess EA is, but they're pretty heartless it seems).

With this, you'll be ready to play right when the game releases, just thought I'd share the news, the servers are still very fast as of now, get in while the getting's good!

De-Frag's review, seems to echo the sentiments above.

Yeah I think that may be it, I definitely didn't play it enough to get completely familiar with it, but from what I played it was pretty annoying.

It was really loose, like taking a corner was something you had to really practice before you could pull off a decently high speed turn. It was made more "realistic" but from what I played, it just felt really slippery and not very fun. Basically it was more of a chore than anything to drive around.

Just because I saw it mentioned...I too hope the car physics are improved. I played a little on a friend's 360, and that was the one thing that really annoyed me, was how easily the cars spun out and felt like they were on ice all the time. I'm not saying to make it really simple and unrealistic, but I don't think the 360 way was entirely good.

I'll be skipping it. I played all the way through GTA3 four or so years ago, and I've still got that queasy "I'm full" kind of feeling. You know, how you feel sick when you see a food commercial after you eaten too much?

All I can think of when I see this game is more irritating timed fetch quests, awkward controls and completely unlikeable characters. No thanks, I'm stuffed.

The characters are actually quite likeable this time though, and the controls for PC at least should be refined to a point of comfort. If you have the time/desire, just wire up an old Xbox controller to USB and install XBCD to play games on the PC like GTA, you can find easy directions for how to do it on Google.

Personally I think the game looks great, and I'm not so sure they had the game running at full tilt for GC2008, there's almost certainly more to be done on it. That said, if any of you like what you see from de-frag, I encourage you to register there, we've spent a lot of time crafting the place to be the best place for all us PC Gamers. If not, enjoy the news coming from the site at least, we have an RSS feed as well. [/shameless plug] Super excited for GTA4 PC, as I don't even have a "current-gen" console.
