As you noted in another thread, our opinions have a reverse correlation, but I think AitD is a mediocre game at best.
The story is passable, but bland. The dialogue is okay, the voice work is okay. The characters aren't likable.
The gameplay is ambitious and relatively unique, but also flawed and occasionally even pretentious. It's similar to Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy in that respect. There's also a lot of trial and error, which can get pretty tedious when you'll often die without making mistakes, simply because the game is poorly designed.
There are a lot of cool things in the game, though - like propagating fire, or the ability to combine items to make cool weapons, and some of the set pieces are pretty spectacular.
You have a PS3, yeah? I'd say rent it if you really want to play it, but it is not worth a buy unless you have a lot of disposable income and/or a high tolerance for mediocrity.
