The game makes you feel as though you are a crucial part to an even bigger story but boasts MMO elements too.

And that is wherein lies the problem: What we do in the game world doesn't matter. You could form a party and fight through the camapign only for nothing to have changed. You are one of several thousand who walked them exact steps and achieved nothing as a result, in terms of the game world that is. Enemies, bosses, allies they will all still be there the next time you play the game and put quite simply, you cannot "Become Legend" when everyone else is too. The legend has already been written and you simply exist. I think they tried to please everyone and in doing so fell short at each mark. I love RPG games and I enjoy FPS but Destiny feels as though it misses the mark. I am enjoying it though, especially the PvP but I think that is because it is competent enough to be a time killer with a bunch of friends.

My biggest issue, funnily enough, is the unforgivable load times. Not only are they long but they are also frequent. Call me spoilt but games like Watchdogs, Last of Us, Diablo etc have made me think that a long load time at the start of the game means a seemless experience once the game gets going was becoming a staple for next-gen gaming. I understand that Destiny looks far better but I feel it ruins the immersion further and can make each level feel like the next part of a game rather than a flowing story. What makes games, especially open world and MMO games so good is that feeling of being part of a huge world where as Destiny makes you feel as though you are going from one soul less instance to another.

I am not going to lie: I am really enjoying Destiny. I think the PvP is great and there is enough going on to pull you in. I, however, don't think it is all that great of a game.

Graphically, it is stunning, but the world doesn't feel real and no matter how many times I go to an area and kill a bunch of enemies, I know they will be there when I come back with no explaination what so ever. I also think that because it looks so good it makes the animations all that more jarring, like characters leaping in gravity defying ways around the city and dancing whilst the story is playing a point so seriously. It doesn't work and it makes the whole experience feel wrong.

I also think that it tries to please everyone and in doing so pleases no one. It allows you to play alone but doesn't allow you to pause the game or remove the multiplayer element altogether. On the flip side, people who enjoy multiplayer probably get frustrated by the inability to intereact with people outside of a few gestures unless you specifically invite them to do so. In addition the story makes out you are the only guardian that matters and whilst in a game world populated with tens of others being told the exact same thing it ruins the experience and the weight of the story they are trying to tell.

@DamnILoveGames @Chronologo Yes pretty much all games, even games that never even achieved GoTY status have these games bundled with DLC. A good example is Dead Island. I reckon we will see an Alien Colonial Marines GoTY edition soon...

@josh7845 @1234ritchie I haven't played a CoD since Black Ops and I have reiterated the fact that it is not the exclusive games that annoy me, it is when exclusive CONTENT is locked out because of a preference in game console. Because I own a PC and an Xbox I am not entitled to the same game as a PS owner, depsite paying the same amount of money.

That isn't right.

@tom2750 @1234ritchie Well I do apologise for upsetting you on a personal level that I enjoy playing on my Xbox as it has Gears, which I like, and a gamepad that isn't terrible.

@Evilgenius4u69 @Saladudo Exactly, it should be one extreme or the other. It is like the girl you liked going to prom with you but then changing her mind once you get there.

@cnx2022 Controversial? Are you joking? A 9 is not controversial, it is a score based on a critic's opinion of a game. Please don't get so upset over a virtual score that has little, to no, impact on how much you enjoy a game.

This game doesn't need perfect 10's to sell well so I am open to alternative opinions about this game. Hence why I didn't get upset on a personal level and call "CONTROVERSY!" at the 7 it got on the Escapist. (Check MetaCritic)

This reminds me of an episode of Jimquisition - hate out of ten - where the reviewer is saying that the game is "superb" but isn't without it's faults and the community is unimpressed with that point that is dropped. I mean, it is so childish.

Opinions are exactly that: opinions. I was surprised that it didn't get a ten, not because I thought it deserved it, but because they gave the heavily flawed and inconsistent tone of GTA IV a score of ten which it didn't deserve - IN MY OPINION.
