Shamelessly stolen from the GAF but I found this interesting as there is always a lot of debate about it here. The examples used are from Dark Souls and to ME the difference is really clear but some people have reported not being able to see it and I really don't know what to say to that :P it's really obvious to me.

Here is an example but there is a full test with 3 gifs too below that is a little less obvious to spot

iKuvI6jaWm9cy.gif

Full test

or 60 fps Uncharted 3

The left one is clearly 60fps, it's a lot smoother.

30fps is fine, but when it's paired with a 60fps the 30fps looks very unnatural.

In a video with that much detail the difference can be subtle, most people will do better with this:

you cant deduce it from that clip.. you need a longer clip and maybe something that isnt so dark...and the chartcter has to be moving of course...then play those side by side...

but not on youtube...utube dumbs everything down to 30fps even if its more..

Agree with this guy. It is hard to tell the difference when it is hardly noticeable in that image. The left side is smoother but it isn't really evident.

The game comparison is  abetter real world example. People here say they can't see the difference between 30 and 60 in game so this is a test for that.

The bouncing blocks is a perfect 30 vs 60 fps test but it also has 15 fps in it which makes 60 look EVEN smoother.

Exactly.

Anyone who can't tell the difference needs to turn up there awareness knob.

Even in the one with the bouncing block it is still easy to tell the higher frame rates apart.

Smoother is smoother (especially up to 60fps), although the bouncing block shows the difference being slightly less apparent, but it is still easy to see.

When it comes to fps the main difference is the way the game feels it just makes the game feel so smooth as for just watching it is not too noticeable. And anyone who disagrees is either blind or has never played 2 versions of the same game at 30 and 60 fps. If I had to guess it would be the one on the left.

Why? The gifs show a clip of gameplay running at normal speed at different frame rates. It's already done. Any longer and your eyes start adjusting and you don't notice as much anymore. Plus they wouldn't be identical either like the gif in the OP.

You can barely tell, but honestly it's not a big deal until you're actually playing the game. Then you can easily tell the difference right away.

This is a big thing with this debate I think. A lot of people play say Uncharted 2 and say 30 fps is fine and 60 fps doesn't matter for games  but that's only cos we have never seen Uncharted running at 60 to tell.

The big thing for me was going from my PS3 playing a LOT of BC2 and then getting a gaming PC and seeing 60fps constant and my what a change that was

I just go by those comment that they can't notice the different (1 of them is because of the devices), and if I didn't save those gif to my harddrive to observe, I probably won't notice much different (both are choppy as hell on my browser). You don't even need to get so complicated, just a simple swinging sword animation is enough. Frankly, a block moving is more than enough to prove it, but since you want to make it more "real"...

both look great im leaning twards the left a little but guess waht you guys that make a big deal about this are total losers... complete and utter losers... the only time i notice FPS is when a game drops in FPS that the only time... as long as it is a consistant FPS it should be good for 95% of all videogame players
