Heavy Rain - STICKEH EDITION! (89@Metacritic) (Gamespot Review in 8.5)

Looks like Heavy Rain is doing pretty well. We should probably discuss it riiiight... HERE!

UPDATE: Doing well on Metacritic, and a NeoGAF user has compiled a nice list for us all.

Basically 90% of the critics have given it 90%. This is really surprising to me. Was not expecting such an overwhelmingly positive critical reception. Was thinking it'd be a reprise of Fahrenheit.

I'm in the same boat, but I have decided that the story, along with the choices and consequences will be enough for me to enjoy it on at least some level. So, I am keeping my mind open and will be giving it a shot.

So when is this game going to release in the US? I would like to know when I can expect a review from Gamespot.

It's releasing in two weeks here in Europe.

Frankly the way the media eats this game up annoys me. This game is very clearly not for everyone, and yet everyone just dumps 9's and 10's on it? Come on. All I can say is there will be a lot of returns for this game from angry customers, who saw high reviews and bought something that cater's to a very specific niche that they weren't a part of.

As far as I know the hype is AA but Im well aware the fanboys are really pushing for a AAA hype. Now I'll be the first to say my hype is AAA but that's completely different to how I feel GS will review it. Now the game looks solid and very unique compared to other games this gen, but the game may well be a miss with GS. I still feel the story and characters plus the new take on gameplay is enough for the game to get 8 by GS. I can't see Heavy Rain getting lower than 8, I'll admit ownage if that happens. So once again personal hype is AAA but GS hype is AA.

I was hyping it AAA before the reviews came out and I am not changing my opinion. Indigo Prophecy was one of my favourite games from last gen, despite all of its problems. This game is going to amazing :)

I'd like to kindly ask those who were mindlessly bashing the game to admit that they were wrong. Ever since this game has been announced it's gotten nothing but unjustified bile from a good portion of the community here, despite the fact that Quantic Dream's last game had been, by and large, a great experience. It's really nice to see Heavy Rain getting such great reviews, I really can't wait to play it when it finally releases.

Maybe critics don't review a game based on what they think their readers will think of it (except for Gamesradar), because that is the dumbest idea ever. Maybe they review games employing their own critical thinking and opinions. If they're doing their job correctly the review will explain to readers what sort of experience they can expect. Because I'd like to think that's why they call them readers. Because they read. Not just stare at the score.

I'm suggesting that reviews should properly reflect the what the public's view is, otherwise they are falsely advertising for the game. I mean did anyone honestly think GTAIV deserved a 10/10 from every site, and is one of the best games ever? No, and it's the same here.

I was expecting Heavy Rain to receive better critical success than Fahrenheit since the latter was flawed in the later portion of the game and the controls were not very good, David Cage said it many times that this time it is not a rushed project and all of Fahrenheit's flaws were fixed.

Regardless, Im very pleased by the reception Heavy Rain is getting :D

Great score from IGN ( I like their reviews more than GS )....can't wait to buy this game idc if it's only 8 hours that's long for a movie

Hey TC change the MC score to 91. Two more reviews came in at 95 & 94 pushing it up.

Were this filmed as a Hollywood picture, it would perfectly fit the body of work of someone like Martin Scorsese or David Fincher.
