@ssdd_again This is what I was thinking as well. If you look around you'll see that this game is nothing special, but certainly isn't the 4/10 GS gave it. It's like I've been saying, GS reviewers have been unusually rough in their reviews just to make some sort of statement. I don't think it's very professional of reviewers to inject their own biases into their reviews.
This is like the lady that docked points on her GTA V review because of her own feminist beliefs. Why would you assign someone who would get so easily offended at things like that to review GTA V of all games? Same idea here. Why have some guy who doesn't like the console review one of the big name launch exclusives for that system? It almost seems like GS was setting this up to fail.
The fact that GS needs to do a video defending themselves shows just how attention-mongering and obvious their scoring was. They were being harsh for the sake of being harsh. Like one of those indie/scene kids that think they're so cool by being "different" (yet ironically all falling within a category themselves). GS reviews have really gone downhill lately.
@zerofrust @wwervin I've seen some of the other reviews. Generally they say the gameplay is fun and the story is good. The visuals are the most impressive of the next gen titles. I don't get how this site can slam the combat style of the game when they consistently give the God of War games scores in the 9/10 region. It doesn't seem to me like they really wanted to enjoy the game going into the review.
@Saidrex @wwervin A 61 is certainly better than a 4, isn't it? Idk it just seems like GS is hitting a bunch of these next gen titles with REALLY low scores just for the sake of doing it. As if it makes them cool. I call that video game snobbery. It's apparent from the review this guy had no intention of liking the game and no open mind.
4/10 seems unnecessarily harsh. It's not the Xbox One's best launch title, but it's certainly better than a 4. I don't know why GS has been so brutal with their reviews lately... it's like the writers all simultaneously sat on a stick when they started writing their reviews. Lot of other reviewers have said the gameplay is very fun and the story is interesting. Doesn't that count for anything?

@dr_jashugan Dead Rising was always wacky in its own way, long before SR3 came out. And SR4? Don't even get me started on that. They just took that to a whole new level of ridiculous. It's completely left the realm of anything believable anymore.
@LADIES_MAN_2013 @idk95 They docked points on GTA V (possibly the best game of the current gen consoles) simply because of reviewer bias. GS used to give great reviews. What happened?
@zowbaid89 What's wrong with a fun mindless game? It takes me back to the old days when games weren't about the story or the drama or what have you. They were about fun gameplay. I don't see anything wrong with that.
@Random_Matt @wwervin @nl_skipper I actually kind of like Kotaku's rating system. It focuses on the pros and cons and gives a buy/don't buy opinion. The only thing I don't like about Kotaku is that they are extremely inconsistent. Some things are positives for certain games, while negatives for others. They bashed Killzone for being just another generic shooter yet praised CoD Ghosts when that franchise hasn't really changed in a long time.
I think if sites could take that sort of system and tweak it a little and offer more consistent reviews, then it would be good. Right now though I haven't really seen a website all that great at reviewing, and that especially includes GS. Didn't that one reviewer dock points from GTA V because of some political/gender issue she had? And here I thought personal bias was never supposed to enter the review itself, but it happened, and we have GS to thank for that.
