@deviltaz35: Well now you have! And I'm not the only one I know that doesn't enjoy them. My cousin and my coworker have zero fun playing them. I find the stories uninteresting and there's only so many times I can punch a civilian or steal a car to outrun the cops. GTA V looks better than the rest, but even then, from the limited time I played on a buddy's system, it just wasn't fun.
The only other game that I've ever played and actively despised was the first Dishonored. Every time I sat down to play it I couldn't stop thinking about what I was going to play next. Couldn't even finish it because I just couldn't get into it.
I thought TLOU was the pinnacle of narrative gaming and then God of War comes along and blew my expectations of what narrative games could be out of the water.
For a long time, TLOU was my favorite game of all time. I think it's been unseated by God of War. Both are phenomenal. It makes me excited for what Naughty Dog has in store for us with TLOU2. That game could just as easily unseat God of War as my favorite game of all time.
@silv3rst0rm: GTA definitely doesn't reach everyone because it's one of the few games I've literally never had fun playing. But all my comment does is reiterate your point – no games can reach everyone.
Reeeeallllyyyyy tempted to grab The Evil Within 2. Really enjoyed my time with the first one. Worth it to grab that at a discount or should I hold off to see if Monster Hunter goes on sale soon?
@chopsbenedict: That's a good point about the GPU that I hadn't thought of, but it does speak to the idea that I think there's still untapped potential in this current gen of consoles, especially in the mid-gen upgrades. I bought a PS4 Pro a couple of years ago, mostly because I figured I would enjoy the performance upgrades it brought, while at the same time thinking it may extend the life of this console generation. While I would ultimately be okay with a late 2020 launch of the PS5, I'd be very content with a 2022 launch date, simply because I think we can still see significant improvement happening on the Pro/One X systems.
The only hesitation I have about letting the devs plan for a new console is that you may see a massive tapering off of games near the launch of the next system. They will focus on creating experiences that take advantage of the new tech and avoid living on the older generation. It's a fine line, for sure, but I like the idea of maximizing a current gen's life cycle so the last year or two don't feel wasted.
At the end of the day, what I think doesn't matter. My hope is that console manufacturers look at the timeline and see that there's still potential with what's out now. The leap between this gen and last won't be nearly as drastic as the last jump was. We will likely get better frame rates and graphical output, but overall, it won't be quite as fantastic as this one was.
