First check all your cables and your AV equipment, although the MS rep probably went over that with you. Buying an Arcade is a good idea, the internals are all the same in these things, except the Arcade also has 256MB of internal storage. You'll have to call an MS rep to transfer the rights of any DLC to the new box though, or else you have to be signed in to Live to use it.

If you can find a Jasper Arcade on sale it might be worth it, especially if you could use another controller anyways, and you can still use your other one elsewhere. On top of the reliability there is the lower noise level and heat generation, however that's only if you don't have a non-gaming need for that $200.

Most game saves are less than 10MB, 256MB will work just fine for someone without using Internet. However, you will not be able to use any of the Rock Band track packs or anything else that requires copying to the hard drive. I would highly recommend the MS deal for a refurbished 20GB, it's a relatively low cost and gives you the flexibility to handle things in the future.

If you buy an Arcade for $200 you can usually get a free game or accessory from most retailers, and then you could use the Microsoft memory upgrade program to get a 20GB HDD for $20 or $30 more.

It takes time to license content. We've been getting the movies, albeit slower than the States. The problem with TV shows is that they are distributed by entirely different networks here in Canada, so to distribute them through Live you would need a licensing deal with the Canadian networks too. Microsoft has to evaluate how much value is in a Canadian licensing deal, it might not be worthwhile to them. Copyright laws are a non-issue because the content in question is locked to the 360.

We will get most of the NXE features. Obviously Netflix support is impossible and I am curious about Primetime. Generally you have to be patient with these things.

If you buy a 360 now you might get a Falcon or a Jasper chipset, but to 99% of end-users wouldn't notice the difference. There is talk that with the eventual release of the Valhalla chipset that MS might release a "slim" model of the 360, but that still wouldn't play games any differently. Even if a new SKU is released, old SKUs will still work. There is no chance of any immediate release of a new console.

The wireless adapter is excellent, but make sure to pair it with a quality wireless network device. A cheap wireless router is just as bad as a cheap wireless adapter.

The bundled ethernet cable is a few metres long, however ethernet cables are dirt cheap from most computer stores.

Watch for bundles that come with free games, a lot of retailers will throw in a game with the purchase of the console around the holiday season, and the official holiday bundles are coming soon. It's a great way to get some variety with your initial purchase.

256mb (the Arcade size memory card) is enough to hold all your saved games, but no realDLC. If you don't have access to an internet connection than that will do fine. If you do have access then you'd probably want to make a (free) Live silver account to download game content and updates. In that case you might want a 20 gb HDD. You probably don't need more than 20gb, so look for an old 20gb pro (there's still a few new ones out there at some retailers) because they're usually around $260-270. Otherwise (and potentially better yet), pick up a used 20gb HDD off ebay or craigslist. You can usually find them pretty cheap from people who've been upgrading.

It's a new gameplay mechanic, wait and see how it plays before you knock it. And don't play the realism card, it was a sci-fi game before, no less than Halo. I think Epic deserves the benefit of the doubt after the first Gears, at least wait to try it.

It would have the same issues as Goldeneye, Nintendo owns the rights to the game, Microsoft owns Rare, thus neither will allow the game exclusively on the other's platform and they seem unable to come to an agreement on profit sharing.
