Hi, this is Andy aka SangHellE56. I have no idea whatsoever if this post counts in this sub-forum, but I just needed to take the time to apologize for a topic I put up a month or two ago. It was about how I wish there were more video games with non-human demon protagonists, but I mistakenly brought up Japanese titles and how their demons look so human. A firestorm ensued, and by now all of GameSpot probably despises me.

This hasn't been something that's really eaten away at me since it happened, but again I'm sorry for even putting it up. I don't watch a lot of anime but I understand why Eastern games that follow its style are so popular.

Everyone likes what they like, but the fact that there aren't any games with non-human monsters as the playable's has really been a tragedy for me, if not everyone else in the gaming community.

Between you and me, I'm otherkin.

It intertwines with how I'm a dev, and want to someday be a Creative Director or something. And while it's a subculture I feel like the world as a whole isn't ready to accept us ( me and others ).

Just wanted to get this off my chest since I came back onto this site.

YES, I know Dead Head Fred was for the PSP back in the day.

Basically I was wondering if there will ever be a modern game that can match it. Preferably one that can beat all the ever-growing boring ass video game stereotypes. "You're some gun totting white guy! Kill all the monsters! There must be boobs" and all this other ridiculousness that's been going on since Modern Warfare was released and countless copies came after...

Anyway, I'm generally asking if there is hope for more handheld games that are are blood / horror and good story driven, yet can achieve cult followings like DHF. Only time will tell, but out of the two I think that the Switch has more potential for devs. You'd need Unity to make a game for it.

Any thoughts?

It's been over a decade since Dead Head Fred came out for the late PSP. With all the talk now about the Nintendo Switch over the PS Vita, will there ever be a new handheld M rated original title for those consoles? There's rarely ever any of these kind of games. :/

It'll probably never happen but this anime would be an amazing action RPG game. Ghost In The Shell ( Masamune's Shirow other work ) gets too much attention imo.

I've thought of it as where you can create your own character within that world. Male or female, the choice of one of the three races ( human, cyborg or biodroid ) and more skills to build, weapons you can mod etc. You could choose to be working with the Olympus PD or become a hellbent master criminal, and the graphics should be cel shaded. This would literally be the Dragon Ball Xenoverse for Appleseed fans. :)

What do you think? I'm only bummed that Disney got the rights to turn it into a live action movie. It'll probably be worse than the GITS adaptation with Scarlett Johansson....

@xantufrog: Sorry. And no I haven't played these types of games. Metroid's the only anime-esque title I've played to this day.

I didn't mean to be a d*ck. I'm just frustrated that there's no game player characters that I can see as or really call "my hero." Everyone has one, be it Master Chief or Lara Croft. But I literally have none. :(

I had it very rough growing up, and didn't take gaming seriously as a passion until I discovered Halo 2 at 14. I was bullied in high school just 'cause I like the Arbiter. He's the only character that's been an example of who I can relate to, not just demons. A completely freaky grotesque space monster with a sword of plasma? I was sold.

By now I've sold the majority of my games where you're a human. It's come to the point where I've downloaded Blender and Unity to become an indie dev and make games of this sort on my own, since there might as well be zero. I have NOTHING against people who otherwise like being virtual humans shooting up monsters. All I'm saying is that there needs to be more games where you're a non-human monster, alien, robot, demon, etc. There's actually a nicely done YouTube clip on this topic.

I'm not a misanthrope. I'm just part of the minority who sees monsters as more than just "the bad guys, they need to die, they're evil" blah blah blah. If I came off as rude with this whole thing on demons that was not my intention. I've been judged my whole life, and I wanted to just say "why can't there be more of this?!?":

@RSM-HQ: Jeez my intent isn't to offend anyone. I just made this post 'cause there's no player character demons that look like DEMONS. Even with the pic you showed me of Dante, most fans know of him as a human young-looking dude with white hair. If I went overboard with calling him a heartthrob, I apologize.

Just from the fact that they look human in general, I can't relate to these characters as heroes. But that's just me, I know 99% of everyone else is just fine with the protagonists from DMC, Persona, Devil Survivor and others. Seriously I'm not hating. I just can't believe that in all the years the industry's been around, there's no heroes that are complete no-f**ks-given monsters from hell that kill, destroy, take no prisoners and look by default like this:

I only saw 5 minutes or so of gameplay on YouTube. This game is soooo hardcore and disturbing. It takes away from the original premise of the series, which is "Find the cure, stop the outbreak, Leon" or whatever. From what I understand you're Ethan and you're looking for your wife looong after the T-Virus outbreak. It's literally 2017 in the game itself.

What do you think? Is it accurate enough to see 7 as Exorcist level scary? 'Cause I'm sure it is.

Dante from Devil May Cry and numerous other supposed "demons" who are player characters in the gaming world are...well, a joke in my opinion. That's putting it lightly. No horns, no forked tails, no snouts, there's just ZERO characters who are actually freaking demons from hell. They're all just a bunch of sugar-coated sprinkle candy fairy wannabes. The demons who actually look the part are always bosses or antagonists. :(

Any thoughts? Please know this is just my opinion.

I know about the Xenoverse series being a platform for Dragon Ball OCs. Especially if they're Saiyans.

Anyway, yeah this game idea I have is based on my own OCs within the DB universe. I want to use MUGEN for it, either that or the DS engine provided by Microsoft. The game is supposed to be different from Extreme Butoden in that there's three dozen fighters that are ACTUALLY playable. Not like EB which tells everyone "there's 100 characters" but only six are really playable and the rest are just side assistance moves. What a damn ripoff.

And as far as the gameplay, here me now when I say I WANT FRICKIN' PLANETS TO BLOW UP AS PART OF THE FINISHING MOVES. About six of my fighters are villains, the rest are neutral or "the good guys." I'm not sure if all my OCs should do it, but I want them to do finale techniques where the opponents die horribly and the whole stage gets ripped apart enough to show the planet's f**ked. For Saiyan characters, they can Zenkai Boost and go Great Ape. These are features that past Dragon Ball games have never cared about. Not even Xenoverse.

The reason I'm asking "should I do this for fun?" is 'cause I'm not Toriyama and could face a lawsuit if I try to sell it. A really ugly lawsuit. So it's possible I'll be the only one playing it when it's finished. :(

But what do you think? I've thought of calling it Dragon Ball Nexus.
