Alien Resurrection Review for the Playstation was genuinely funny. Who would have known that the highly criticized dual analog control scheme would become the norm?

Gunvalkyrie 2 (the original was on the Xbox), this time to assign the analog stick clicks to the shoulder buttons, and to move and rotate the camera like modern games, although I would prefer an HD rerelease with the first improvement, because you can't change its dual analog behaviour.

With PC gaming, people want to exceed the intended performance of games that were released on consoles, that is to boast 60 FPS or more and higher resolution. Sometimes, it's not what the developers had in mind, so people waste money and enjoy games like I do when they're older, but the hardware is cheaper. Just learn how to compromise performance and enjoy games with what you can afford.

Tank controls didn't bother me as much on the Dreamcast as on the Playstation, because the camera showed things from behind the back, due to the graphics that allowed things to be rendered at a distance, and they became part of even Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4, among others such as Gunvalkyrie and Mechwarrior 4, but they were also helped by strafing and torso rotation.

Take Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm on the Dreamcast, for example, which allows you to strafe with the triggers, as opposed to Megaman Legends turning with the shoulder buttons, because the character needed to change his direction for the attacks to feel like an extension of his movement. Since you didn't need to aim vertically at the same time, pulling both triggers allowed you to stop in place, and to look up or down like the old Tomb Raider games.

There's another game called Red Dog: Superior Firepower that made drifting with the tank a means to circle your opponents as you turned by aiming with the turret, only this time you could target those above or below you at the same time, as the cursor moved freely around the screen to help you look even when idle.

Games like Jet Set Radio and Phantasy Star Online used the camera centering option, because the character moved freely into blind spots, but they wouldn't be a problem had the view been top down like GTA Chinatown Wars.

GTA Vice City, but on PC, because I can't stand its console gameplay.

No mention of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the Genesis? There's also Descent, Descent II, 3: Retribution and the Mercenaries expansion on PC.

Role playing games need a system before they can be made into action. Traditional RPG that evolved into real time battle engagement are doing this thing where the action elements participate in their fine tuned systems and not the other way around. Action games need to break their gameplay down into battle sequences before they can attempt stats or customization. Panzer Dragoon Saga was an example of how to turn the on-rails shooting of its series into turn based combat or an active time battle system. Hit sponges were never the alternative until people began taking them in though.

@speeny: Play the game through PC/PS3/Xbox 360 download. I think that it's based on the PS2 rerelease, but in high definition, while the Wii game is a sequel (Journey of Dreams is its name and it should be approached with caution).

I consider NiGHTS into Dreams to be a perfect game. It's almost free form to the point of having to discover its goals through the joy of flight with only a timer to let you know that the experience will end. Then, once you get a hold of what it is, the game can only improve by attempting the highest score. The Saturn graphics also helped its mystery by concealing the world through limited rendering like Silent Hill's fog on Playstation.
