What are Gaming greatest trilogies?

Hello friends,

In this thread we are discussing about what are best trilogies?

For me I can think of those 2

Max Payne and Metro Trilogies

Metro Trilogy ended this year on high note and its one of the most immersive series i have ever played. both atmospheric wise and story wise too. but yeah it has flaws just like every other games. first 2 Metro games have advantage over Exodus in a sense that they have better story and pacing while exodus has advantage that its longer and more open.

Max Payne Trilogy has ended 7 years ago but no other TPS game manage to make as great as Max payne series was. none. although Max payne 2 is worst in series easily. it was easily weakest point of series both in a term of story, in a term of longevity, was far too easy and less atmospheric. Original game is still a masterpiece, and so was third game which become rockstar best game ever made.

I cant think of any other gaming trilogies are as great as those 2. I think they both are best gaming trilogies.

Mass Effect

Shenmue... now that it's a trilogy

Crap... most my favorites are either a single game, have only one sequel, or more than two sequels.

My runner up is the Dead Space Trilogy. I think these are the best 3rd person shooters out there. Limb slicing tools are fun to use. The death scenes are all fantastic, and I will go out of my way to die in new ways in this game. As an engineer myself... Isaac Clark is my hero.

My all time favorite trilogy is the Metroid Prime series. Nothing like upgrading Samus with all her fancy tools and weapons. The seamless transition to morphball makes traversal and movement real fun. And some of the best boss fights in gaming. CANT WAIT TILL ITS NO LONGER A TRILOGY!

yeah. Shenmue is also a nice trilogy.

most of my fav games are also belong in franchise of one good rest bad, or have bad sequels, or dont have trilogies at all.

Best for last:

PS1 and PS2 are littered with them. But most like TR aren't just great trilogies but entire franchises, like RE or FF.

It's not a real Mario game.

Besides the game is horrible, how can it be considered a great Mario game when it isn't real Mario game?

Ive heard so many rumors at this point who knows what to believe.

Level design in lost levels aint so hot imo.

@npiet1: You can keep saying it's horrible, but that doesn't make you less wrong. Game has excellent level design and the better bosses than most Mario. It looks nice and sounds nice. Also I do believe it actually did began as the actual Mario 2 before being turned into Doki Doki Panic. It was just turned back into Mario 2 for America since the Japanese Mario 2 was just Mario 1 but with harder levels. Also characters from SMB 2 have made constant returns in Mario games such as Shy Guys and Birdo.

I always heard it was a clone of some other game (Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic according to wiki), that they just stuck some Mario graphics over and only Japan the real Mario 2 game. It's also why the enemies are so different.

@npiet1: In Japan the game was originally Doki Doki Panic. What he meant was Doki Doki Panic started off as Mario 2 before becoming Doki Doki Panic and was morphed back into Mario 2 for America while in Japan their Super Mario Bros 2 was just a harder version of the first Super Mario Bros. They eventually got our version of Super Mario Bros 2 which is known as Super Mario Bros America I believe.

Then what is the Star Wars trilogy if not a trilogy in a larger series? MGS counts. 4, PW and 5 were weak in comparison and needn't be included.

Probably Mass Effect, then the Bungie Halo trilogy (1-3).

I don't want to stick up for ghosts but MGS 4 exists (and the others) therefore its not a trilogy, I don't know whether people are deliberately doing this to **** with ghosts or a genuinely stupid lol.

its called sub series or saga.

star wars is prequel trilogy or sequel trilogy.

MGS4 and 5 exist. if there were 3 MGS games star solid snake then it would have been called MGS solid snake trilogy but there is none.

Mass effect can be called trilogy because andromeda is new saga and another game.

No mention of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the Genesis? There's also Descent, Descent II, 3: Retribution and the Mercenaries expansion on PC.

@warmblur: MK 1-3 is about the only thing I can think of, and have played all of.

I haven't played fallout 1 and 2, or God of war 1 and 2 so I can't say.

@ghosts4ever: Mass Effect, The Witcher, especially the Witcher 3, Mafia (because of Mafia 3 though, Mafia 1 is one of the worst games of all time.

All of them are trilogies, obviously:

• Warcraft (RTS franchise, not the MMO)
• GTA 3/Vice City/San Andreas
• Splinter Cell (with Chaos Theory as the third one)
• Mass Effect
• Max Payne
• The Witcher
• Diablo (yeah, I liked the third one)
• Batman Arkham (even though I didn't like the last one that much)

To be fair, Andromeda has nothing to do with Mass Effect 1/2/3 and Bioware stated that Andromeda is like a spin-off but then again, Andromeda was supposed to be start of a new trilogy but Bioware abandon that idea.

Or better yet, do spin-off games even consider themselves part of a trilogy?
