[QUOTE="momentum_god"] Just because it wasn't the only reason doesn't mean it wasn't a reason and again I don't see you people complaining about it willing to buy a BC ps3 for a little more so you made your choice you want them to give you everything for less then it costs them to produce and then sell it to you for 100 dollars less on top of it momentum_god

I bought my 60GB fully BC PS3 in Dec. 2006 for $600... Also did you read the article in that link? Jack Tretton said BC wasn't removed due to costs it was removed to encourage people to buy PS3 games.

Didn't read it cuz link gave me a list which the article wasn't on and did he say removing the BC did not effect the price in anyway? If not it's another reason thats it

Well he said removing BC didn't drmatically reduce production costs the main reason was to entice people to buy PS3 games as opposed to playing their PS2 games on the PS3.

Because for awhile the original Halo was the only decent game on the original Xbox so M$ and Xbox fans hyped it up as the greatest game ever. If Halo was a Playstation or PC game it would've been considered good but not great with all the other quality games on those platforms.

I'm sure it also had something to do with re-selling PS2 games as HD remakes. Either way it's BS and BC shouldn't have been removed.

Pretty much, and yeah, I agree!

Considering PC tech is at least a full generation ahead of consoles I've been ready for next gen. consoles for awhile now. I'm tired 6+ year old console tech holding back video games.

"Cookie cutter" skyscrapers?

topgunmv

They look very similar to me and there's no comparison to the level of varied detail in the UC2 image I posted earlier.

[QUOTE="jdt532"]

[QUOTE="JuarN18"] so the snow covered mountains, the desert.. all a lie?

JuarN18

It's not just about different environments it's also about the fine details. If the urban environment is filled with the same dull cookie cutter skyscrapers and the rural environments are filled with the same trees and villages over and over that to me is still repetitive. When you look at the urban areas in UC2 you can tell that each building was individually modeled and textured with different textures and details like in this image...

interesting, but not all games have UC2's level of detail, infamous for example

True but Infamous 2 seems much better in that regard maybe not at the same level as UC2 but much better than the first Infamous.

I own JC2 on the PC and most of the game is filled with the same repetitive jungle environment with the same cookie cutter village over and over so that game's environments are just as repetitive as any other DVD gimped game.

Well Uncharted 2 has distinctly different environments like jungle, urban and snow covered mountain environments. The two PS3 Ratchet & Clank games both have several different planets to explore that have there own distinct environments. Most PS3 games in fact have diverse environments throughout the game.

This is what the condecending Hermits don't seem to get. Yes ram determines the prettness on the screen. Storage determines the prettyness of the game. That's why they've been spamming the same picture of a palm tree all these years. Theres literally four locations in the whole game.

What's the excuse for just cause 2? You have every environment from snow covered mountains to arid deserts to skyscraper filled cities, and everything in between.

[QUOTE="The_Game21x"]

1. Alan Wake's graphics have little or nothing to do with the disc it's pressed on.

2. I've played Mass Effect 2 through a good 3 times and in each playthrough I've had to switch discs twice (once about halfway through and again when starting the suicide mission). How are you having to switch discs "constantly"?

The_Game21x

The game is just grainey. It's not open world. You gonna try and tell me that Alan Wake looks like that because of ram Limitations? Don't think so. There are games that are way more open world then that that don't look grainey and washed out. Nope cutscene dialouge heavy game needed to compress and cram it's assets into a single DVD.

The best looking game of this generation, Crysis, is on one DVD. Crysis 2, which is widely hailed by many reviewers as being the best looking game on a console, is also on one DVD. Again, physical media has nothing to do with visual fidelity.

RAM limitations are a huge factor in visual fidelity. Discs are not. That is a fact.

And the reason those games are on a single DVD is because they reuse the same environments over and over and over and over. Crysis is mostly the same repetitive jungle setting through most of the game and Crysis 2 is mostly the dull repetitive urban environments.
