The system will still be worth it. PS3 games still came out this year 2017. PlayStation 4 will probably be supported until at 2022 before they stop production of the console. Will "PlayStation 5" come out in a few years? Yes, but games will still come out for PS4 for two the three years afterwards. The system has sold over 60 million without the help of Gran Turismo or God of War. The PS4 will definitely go on to sell 100 million units in its lifetime. Developers are not going to cut the system off just because the next generation system is out. PlayStation one games were made and sold until 2005. This was 5 years after PlayStation 2 games came out. PS2 games are still being made from a technical standpoint. You can buy Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 in Central America. Sony stopped supporting PlayStation 2 around early 2013 I believe. The system sold alongside PlayStation 3 for the majority of the seventh generation life cycle. Sony still offers PS3 games for PlayStation Plus. PlayStation 4 will last for at least a decade before it is taken off shelves completely. There is not bad time to get a console. You can get a lot of great games for cheap such as Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Tearaway, Until Dawn, Infamous, Valkyria Chronicles, Bloodborne, and more.

If you are a "tech geek," then PS3 as well as other consoles are not going to be for you. It really depends on the developer and the game. Resistance Fall of Man was a launch title. It looks and plays the part. I do not think PS3 games look poor compared to today's standards. The Ratchet games still hold up today. The Uncharted collection is available on PS4 along with The Last of Us, God of War 3, Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders, Bioshock, Dishonored, the Batman Arkham games, Valkyria Chronicles, Street Fighter 4, Bladestorm, Dynasty Warriors 8, Skull Girls, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, , Grand Theft Auto 5, Flower, Journey, Flow, Saint's Row 4, Borderlands, DMC, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection, Wipeout Collection, and so forth. I do not know why Sony released God of War 3 remastered but did not released the PS3 Ratchet games, Sly Cooper, the Infamous games, Puppeteer, The Killzone games, The Motorstorm Collection, Demon's Souls, and Folklore. The first party title on PlayStation 3 are the best. PS Now is good for a month. It sucks that a lot of older titles are missing, but if you want a quick glimpse at a lot of the first party software, then try it on PC.

@DERHYUS: Are just posing that as a question or are you asking about it due to wanting discounts on games. There are tons of games that are $20 and below right now. You do not need a label for games to be cheap. You can games like Knack, Killzone, Infamous, The Evil Within, Tearaway, Until Dawm, Bloodborne (orginal), Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter 5, The Last of Us, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Doom, Tales of Zesteria, Final Fantasy X, The Mega Man Collection, Shovel Knight, Etc. The greatest hits line of titles usually have questionable color schemes. Cheap games are already available. The only reason the "greatest hits," "platinum," or "best for family" lines were introduced was to get more people to buy games that already sold well. These lines were made purely for marketing purposes. A ton of games are already cheap. There is no reason to really introduce a line at this point in time.

The short answer is that narrative heavy games is what Sony is known for. What other company puts out games in different genres? Nintendo puts out mostly platformers and 3d adventure games, and Microsoft puts out a lot of games relying on guns. Sony took a lot of risks last generation that did not really pay off. Puppeteer was a sidescroller that no one bought. The game was amazing. The Japanese theater approach was EPIC. The last main Motorstorm game sold like crap compared to the other two games. No one bought MAG. The same can be said the Resistance game. Resistance 3 was awesome minus the multiplayer. PlayStation All Stars did not sell as well as Sony hoped. At the end of the day. If games do not regenerate the money that was put into them, then the franchise cannot continue. I am aware that VG chartz is not the best source for numbers, but they at least ball park the sales of every game that comes out. Most of the games that have sold well with exceptions like Call of Duty and sports game have been third person oriented games. There is a list of thirty games that have sold millions worldwide. Uncharted is up there along with Fallout, Final Fantasy XV, The Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Night, The Last of Us, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, and Metal Gear Solid. Sony sees which sell the most on its platforms and decide to create that cater to its fanbase. You do not go to a steakhouse and order avocados. Sony puts out creative games, then those games do not super well. Sony Santa Monica partners with a lot of smaller developers to get unique games on its platforms. Look at how well Twisted Metal, Journey and Puppeteer sold compared to all the other games listed. This messaging system is ridiculous. It does not let you post screenshots. I am sorry that my paste work looks like crap. None of the quirky games sold over one million worldwide or in a single territory. The Last Guardian has sold 1.16 million worldwide. The game has not sold even half a million in one territory alone. There is no way Sony made money back on that game. Creative games do not sell as well as games with established formulas. That is a fact of life.

The snes wins by far. A lot of the games on Super Nintendo still hold up today. They do not need remasters whatsoever. Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X, Seiken Densetsu 3, Turtles in Time, Yoshi's Island, Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Sim City, Super R-Type, Castlevania 4, F-Zero, Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Kirby Super Star are the creme of the crop. These games do not need any alterations whatsoever. Great games that might need minor polishing are titles such as Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, the Super Star Wars trilogy, Act Raiser, Super Ghouls N Ghost, Earthworm Jim, and Starfox.

No other Nintendo platform has as many games that still stand up as well today as they did the day they came out.

I would suggest Final Fantasy X/X-2 collection. You do not need to worry about equipping your characters with weapons and armor. The level up system is known as the sphere grid. Each character starts at his or her own section of the grid. Eventually, your characters will level up to the point where their grids will overlap and the warrior character can learn white magic for example. Each character has specific enemies that they do well against. Just make sure to the learn the skill "extract ability" early on in the game when you have ability spheres. This will save you a lot of time. Final Fantasy X is technically not a ps4 game per se, but as far as getting into RPGs is concerned, it is a great title to start with.

Ratchet and Clank. I know that this might seem to be an odd choice, but whenever people bring up top tier PlayStation games, Ratchet always gets left out. Uncharted and GTA get mentioned without much thought, but Ratchet always seems to go forgotten., Hot Shots or Everybody's Golf. The new PS4 game is not out yet, but I am sure most people will pass on the game when it comes out in late August. It sucks that the new Uncharted game comes out a week before the new Everybody's Golf. The Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, Pix the Cat, Velocity 2X, Tales of Baseria, and Blazblue are all games that go overlooked.

@matty_king001: If Nintendo did not fund the game, then the sequel would have never happened. Nintendo paid for the game to be made, and that is the reason it will never come to other consoles. The only slim possibility of getting the game on another platform is if Nintendo decides to sell the game to Sega or another third party publisher due to sales tanking. There is probably a good chance the game will come to the Switch, so I doubt this is the case. Exclusives still exist. If you do not want to buy the console, then why should you be entitled to play the game. Games are a privilege, not a necessity.

Who thought Sony was not going to compete against "Scorpio?" Sony was obviously not going to let Scorpio put a dent in the its console dominance as far as a "powerhouse" is concerned. People tend to forget that last generation was the oddity out of all the rest. Generations typically do not last seven years before the next system comes out. The original Xbox was out for only four years before the 360 came out. PlayStation 1 was out five years before PlayStation 2 came out. PlayStation 3 was delayed until November 2016. It was originally supposed to come out in May of that year. That is a little less than six years before the PS3 was supposed to be released. I am sure Sony will support the "regular" PS4 until 2021, so I do not see what everyone is complaining about. Once technology reaches the masses, it is considered old. No one buys brand new technology. We just buy older technology that is more advanced than what previously came before it. I have had the PS4 for three years, so buy the time the equivalent to a "PS5" comes out, I will have gotten what I wanted out of the previous system. The major games I wanted to play on PS4 were Uncharted, Ratchet, Infamous, Hot Shots Golf (Everyone's Golf, Minna no Golf) and Tekken. The majority of those games have come out with the last two coming out this summer.

Most of Sony's first party studios have released a game on PS4 except for Sony Bend,Prolyphony Digital, Media Molecule and Sony Santa Monica. God of War and Days Gone will probably be out next year. Sucker Punch, Sony San Diego, Evolution (now defunct) Naughty Dog, Team Ico, Sony Japan studios (Knack and its sequel along with Gravity Rush 2), and Guerrilla Games have already released titles on the PS4. Sony London does not do anything besides Sing star these days. Media Molecule is still working on "Dreams," and Prolyphony Digital is working on Gran Turismo. The other first party studios are tied up with VR. The PS4 eighth generation has already run its course. Are there a few surprises left?, sure. We have got Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest from Square Enix, Red Dead 2 and (GTA 6) from Rockstar, more team Ninja and Omega Force games, From Software games, Ni No Kuni 2, and a Kojima game. the only other surpises that I could think of would be Soul Calibur 6. I do not know if Project Soul will released based on the performance of the last game.

In short, we all what the big developers are working on for the most part. The generation is in its mid point entering late life cycle territory. The system had a good run. 60 million units in three years and a half is not bad. The PS4 will most likely sell 100 million units before Sony ceases production of the base system. The end of the PS4 life cycle is where I will end my gaming career. I am not going to get "PS5" or the successor to "Scorpio." The market wants to focus on open world games a lot of the time, and I just do not have the hours to finish everything.

You can play PS4 on a standard definition TV with a converter. The games will be cut off in the upper left and right corners, butt it still looks good. https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Composite-Converter-Adapter-Supporting/dp/B00KBQZC4M/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1489733442&sr=1-6&keywords=hdmi+to+rca+converter
