I want in, but I want a position as a designer, not a programmer. I went through college for Software Engineering and I had alot of fun learning how to write software, mostly with C++. I just dont have my heart in writing code as a job. I think its great that I understand things from a technical perspective, and it will be a big boon to me later on.
For years I have been persuing a career as a professional writer, my skills have really improved since I started and I'm close enough to getting published that I can smell it. I am working up a compilation of Sci-Fi novelettes that I intend to shop around to different agents when finished.
I have created a Sci-Fi world called the "End Age". The era I'm concentrating on developing is over 3000 years in the future when humanity spans the entire galaxy and controls everything, a time where humans are the sole superpower of our galaxy. As I'm working on the novelettes I'm also working on a game design for "The Ultimate Sci-Fi RPG" set in the same era.
I plan to pitch the game to some developers in hopes one of them will help me take the concept to a publisher and get funding. Before I try to send off the pitch I am going to develop the game design fully, create concept models for all the vehicles, "actual size" concept models for all the weapons, video prototypes demonstrating select parts of the interface and the combat system, and get some of the stories published so the world is established in print. This will obviousally take time and alot of work, but I have nothing better to do with myself, and I love being creative.
Currently, I have 3 of the planned 5 novelettes completely finished, one is written but needs considerable work, and the other is about 80% outlined. I have the first concept model about 75% complete, my first ever scratchbuilt model, so that has been a learning experience. The design document for the game is a completely unmanageable cluster of 300+ pages... I am starting over, cleaning up and redesigning the crafting and character system to be much more simple. I'm going to make the prototypes with Blender, I have alot of experience with that program, but I'm not going to start on those until I finish with the design document.
