Yeah being able to create your own character is one way. Or sticking with a 1st person perspective and effectively neutralizing the player character identity is another.. But I think you miss out on a lot of good story narrative.
Bioshock: Infinite case in point. A genderless, faceless protagonist would not serve that excellent narrative.
You will get diversity when those inside the industry are diverse. Right now in its' 90% white males under the age of 40 makign these games. It's like bitching at the Japanese for not making JRPG's with more hispanics and africans in it.
When you dream do you dream about being what you are not? I'm black, over 6'5, if I had one oppurtinity to produce, design and direct a video game, it would not be about Hobbits. It would be about a 6'5 black guy with a pet dragon and hot girlfriend who is a ninja. I may throw in a best friend who will round out the demographic, and maybe the girlfriend will wear more than two strips of clothing, but her ass and boobs are gonna be well displayed.
@khatibi22 The pirate copies are a drop in the bucket compared to the legit sales. The reports on pirate downloads are over inflated it is nowhere near as accurate as the metrics you would get from Orgin, Steam or GOG and Xbox Live. They take, account, DEVICES and then check to see who bought what.
Piracy is rampant, but it's not hurting sales that much.
@pimpofdoom It will play out with Epic games being released in China and not being pirated with the approval of the chinese governemnt.
Its all about money to these clowns, and everyone turns a blind eye to China because they got the rare earth elements, the labor and the balls to sell it for their benefit only.
