Wait wait wait, EA expected to sell 11 million copies of Battlefront based on the number of players who played the Beta. They should have had a separate official statement saying, 'we expect the title to underperform'.
Assassin's creed syndicate comes hot on the heels of Unity. SPOILER This is not a good thing.
Halo 5 launched to a console that has a much smaller install base than Halo 4 did, and is hot on the heels of the Masterchief collection. SPOILER these are not good things.
The real surprise here is that people are surprised.
Nintendo could have been such a dominant force in today's console market place instead of runner up if it wasn't run the way it is today. Their business has turned a much bigger profit than Sony's and MS's (console divisions only) but it remains the furthest from people's consciousness today and indeed the players they brought in from the Wii have migrated to Xbox 1 and PS4
It's a shame that this type of article gets so many clicks. I know, I'm here, but I think I'll stop being so curious as to how many consoles are sold in a month with respect to the competition. I'd love to know how many people are buying both the Xb 1 and PS4...
@stridsvagnen: It's in there to keep people playing longer, which means stronger sales, and a higher perceived value. I don't like it all that much either. Unfortunately, there are some cool skill unlocks you won't get unless you're collecting. I didn't find it annoying in the last Tomb Raider because getting through the environment to get the object was fun, and you could unlock most if not all of Lara's skills in a 12 hour play through.
Steam machines will likely find a healthy following of fans. One issue remains that will make consoles a slightly better option: optimisation. Unless a PC development team is committed to your machine's hardware, it won't be able to run games as well as the console counterpart one or two years from now. That said, games on steam cost less, so, if you purchase many games (more than 10 per year) and have to upgrade every 2-3 years, you'll likely have better performance at a similar budget.
