shinkyo is right, make sure you format it to FAT32 or FAT, it cannot use NTFS at all! (windows xp or above can only access NTFS file system) I've tried because I have an external 500GB drive and it's NTFS. I would also make a backup of your saves (not the game install data) to a SD card or Memory stick or USB key just incase you lose the saves. You will have to install your games again onto the new hard disc, theres no way around it. When I reformatted my HDD to put linux on it I lost some demos and game install data, but luckily kept all my saves, but for some reason my Skate. videos were missing! be careful you don't lose saves they r most important. All your PSN games can be redownloaded since its stored on your account. I'm also thinking about doing this and getting a big hard drive, so let me know how it goes!

I use a HDMI to DVI cable with a PC LCD monitor. If you go to display settings, you can set the RGB settings to FULL and the Superwhite to ON, and it will make a massive difference to the contrast and dynamic range of brightness and black will look much darker, richness of colours improved etc.all my games looked greyish and had a lack of contrast before but now they all look amazing. Someone pointed out (youtube assassins creed comparison) that a lot of graphics comparison videos and photos were done without those settings set on, therefore the xbox 360 version looked better in a lot of game sites... if you set the settings I said, the ps3 version will have just as good if not better contrast and colour.

These are my games, and ill tell you their max outputs. Note: this is NATIVE resolution of the games, not max supported with upscaling. I play all my games with the ps3 set to 1080p, but it will sometimes change the resolution to a lower one (like a PC).

Uncharted: 720p

MGS4: 720p

Oblivion: 720p

Resistance: 720p

Devil May Cry 4: 720p

Motorstorm: 720p

Skate: 1080p

GTA4: 1080p

Super Stardust HD: 1080p

Warhawk: 720p

Tekken 5 DR Online: 1080p

Gran Turismo HD : 1080p

I also found a list:

http://www.makeyougohmm.com/ps3-1080p-games/

also some others I don't own:

Gran Turismo 5: 1080p

Virtua Tennis: 1080p

Ninja Gaiden Sigma: 1080p

Theres debate as to whether COD4 is 1080p and Burnout Paradise at 1080p

also, i'd like to point out some games look far better even though they say 720p on the back, e.g. Drake's Fortune, MGS4 both look really crisp on my monitor (19inch 1440*900 resolution) compared to GTA4 and Skate, even though they are meant to be 1080p! My monitor upscales/downscales the resolutions a bit and some games, sometimes with detailed textures you can see lines on the screen where some lines of pixels have been missed out, (Oblivion has them) wheras Drake's Fortune has no obvious pixels missing. The fact is,not as many people have a native 1080p tv, and also the PS3 doesn't have the power to do every game in 1080p. I think in time, more and more games may have 1080p support as developers get better with the Cell BE.

I agree, we need more slash-em-ups (?) but we do have a few already, if you're willing to be flexible; Devil May Cry 4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Heavenly Sword, Soul Calibur 4, Genji: Days of the Blade, Assassin's Creed. Ok they are not Tenchu, Bushido Blade or Way of the Samurai, but we'll just have to be patient.

im getting far cry 2, because the first one was sweet, and this looks even better, i want an immersive fps with big story mode and thats what this is, and it also has sweet open world multiplayer. also you forgot about brothers in arms: hell's highway, the gore in that looks awesome, and also call of duty: world at war has co-op mode (as does resistance 2).

all the classic beat -em ups like river city ransom, marvel vs capcom, king of fighters, street fighter series, all the mortal kombat series, streets of rage, tekken 1 and 2, some sonic the hedgehog genesis and 32x and mega cd ports, bubble bobble/bust a move, bomberman, all those side scrolling shooters like metal slug, xevious, gradius, platypus et al. all retrofitted with online multiplayer and leaderboards. i really want a sequel to abe's exoddus as in a proper side-scrolling platform game with hd graphics. a new sonic the hedgehog game in the style of the genesis games with hd graphics and 60fps animation and online co-op mode and racing through levels wouldn't go a miss either (one guy controls tails, another sonic etc.). hope i didnt miss anything out...

I posted a topic on ps4 a while ago, basically it should take them longer than previous generations as theyve yet to get a return on the ps3, due to it being a massive investment. If sony release another console that makes an enormous shift in technology in 2012 they will surely lose some user base. Microsoft on the other hand seems to release new consoles as if they dont care about the last one, just for a minor improvement in technology, sony should ignore this and counter much later on with another 10-year console, in around 2014, 2015 or so, with much better hardware than 360. on the other hand, sony could make a minor improvement in technology for the next console, and use multiple cell processors to power it, this would make it cost less for us, but they'll likely want to use another disk format to keep with the trend, raising costs again, and this trend of next-gen technology is what leads me to believe it will be released much later.

I voted far cry 2, because I need a new fps... Resistance just doesnt do it for me any more. I played the first Far Cry and if its anything like that, its gonna be great. I want to read a review about LBP before I commit to it... I want to be sure you can do the sorts of things I have in mind... e.g. base jumping off a to-scale skyscraper, doing stunts, also want to know if you can make moving platforms like a hanging platform attached to a zip-line. So far, LBP seems too limited in what you can do for my liking, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

I use mine whenever I'm on the train, which isn't that often nowadays but anyway, one time I was at the train station playing Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition and a rough looking young guy came up and asked if he could have a go, after telling me he'd just come out of prison. I said "no" and he kept trying to persuade me saying things like "I need something to do whilst I wait for the train". (this didn't sway me at all). Then he sat next to me and asked what game I was playing, I said Final Fantasy, assuming he wouldn't know what it was, then he said he used to have it on the playstation. I managed to escape without him having a go and without the PSP being stolen thanks to my train finally arriving.

PSP's are prized posessions, keep yours safe and don't trust a complete stranger with it, especially one who approaches you, they might run away with it! I knew I could have gotten it back if he tried to steal it, but I was more worried about damaging it in the process. I imagine i would take my PSP on holiday too, as its perfectly suited to that.
