A credit is not a refund. A refund is when you actually get your money back. You can take your money and do what you want with it. A credit is Sony making you their bitch on a leash.

Apparently, some people love bending over for Sony.

$10 credit is not the same thing as a $10 refund.

Good. Who wants to be forced to pay an extra $100 for a device they won't use?

Sense which finger I'm holding up, Kinect.

I knew they would be forced to change these eventually. Just never expected it before launch.

TBH, I wanted to see the Xbox One launch with these limitations to see if it gets destroyed. It would have been a good lesson for greedy companies not to piss off gamers like this in the future.

Still, too little, too late. I'll be sticking with my PC's for gaming (especially online gaming). Unless MS and Sony give me good reasons to buy their next consoles, I'm not interested. No backwards compatibility and paid online gaming are too huge for me to buy into.

Since the PS1 days, all my main consoles were from Sony and MS. In fact, aside from the GBA, Nintendo's hardware was never one of my main even before Sony and MS came in. And aside from Mario Kart and Smash Bros., I'm not a fan of Nintendo's games, either. Despite all these, my favorite first party company has been and still is Nintendo.

Nintendo puts so much passion into their games. Rather than trying to milk and exploit us, they just want to make great games that people will want to buy. The end result is that people love Nintendo's games and fork up tremendous amount of money for their products.

Customers are not objects just sitting there to be exploited. We don't spend our money for the benefit of greedy companies. When companies try to screw us over, we take notice and take our business elsewhere.

I see what MS is doing with the Xbox One and it's disgusting. If MS thinks the best way to sell me their hardware is by pissing me off, they're in for a surprise. I'm another gamer that will definitely not be buying the Xbox One in its current state.

I also see what Sony is doing and it's also disgusting. It may not be as bad as the Xbox One, but the PS4 is halfway there. Paid online... The block of used games if the publishers choose to. These may be enough reasons for me to not buy a PS4.

In a time where games are expanding to smart phones, tablets, and other dedicated game systems, Sony and MS really need to give gamers reasons to buy their products. This is just about the worst time to turn people away.

Yep. Some games are so good that I not only keep them for more than half a decade, I buy them on multiple platforms, buy special editions, director's cut versions, collections, HD versions, portable versions, etc. By the time I trash/sell the obsolete versions, they're obsolete and don't even do the company any harm.

The only games I re-sell early are games not worth it; The same games I will no longer buy at full price if I can't sell without paying companies royalties.

Wow, somebody actually read my long ass post. :P

Yeah, I was thinking about that. As a gamer, I'd like to see gaming reach new heights. But a game company is still a company and I don't know if they care about anything other than profit. If companies can make major profit by nuking the entire gaming scene (hypothetically speaking), it would be wishful thinking to think companies won't nuke it.

A lot of so-called "experts" like to claim how dedicated gaming is dying at the hands of smart phones and tablets. They look at the sales comparisons and make shallow claims without considering all the variables that can completely turn things around (look at how inaccurate sports predictions are, for example).

Dedicated gaming is not a system. It's not a company. It's a hobby and it will always have a demand from the dedicated gamers. As long as that demand exists, there will be providers for it. Sony, Nintendo, and MS are just some of the current providers. Even if they fail, others will come into take their place, just like how these companies replaced Panasonic, Sega, etc.

It may be more accurate to say that dedicated gaming SYSTEMS in their current form are in danger. After all, like everything else in the world, even technology needs to evolve with the times to survive.

Still, the most important function of a game system is to deliver games that people will buy. Nintendo is a master at making these games. Even with their subpar systems of late, Nintendo is still going strong. They're the only console maker left from the NES era, and they just might be able to survive a long time on subpar hardware that can't match the Playstations, or have the market penetration of iPads.

This really makes me wonder, why doesn't Nintendo put more power into their systems? Something that fits better with the times.

While their game quality is the main reason Nintendo is still doing well, it's hard to imagine that they could have done this without gimmicks/innovations that they put in to evolve their hardwares. The touchscreen on the DS, the 3D effect on the 3DS, the motion controller for the Wii, etc. all played important roles.

I'm not saying just blindly put effort into more power instead of other features. Rather, if Nintendo continues to make great games, come up with different gimmicks/innovations, AND have powerful hardware on top of that, they can really crush all the nay sayers.

I've never been a fan of Nintendo's systems. However, I'm not blind to the fact that Nintendo's innovations opened the door to many features I enjoy on the Playstations and the Xboxes. Sony and Microsoft have gotten too comfortable resting on their laurels without really pushing the envelope (and in the case of Xbox One, just spitting on the face of their customers). I would just like to see what kind of chain reaction we will see in dedicated gaming, if Nintendo really kicks it up a notch on their hardware specs as well.
