@PodXCOM I believe what we're seeing here, perplexingly, is people pointlessly parroting pessimistic pundit's pontificating predictions pertaining to perfunctory platform progress.
@Aspire85 Higher res models, higher res textures, better light effects, better AI, better physics, higher res graphics all around, better anti-aliasing, better filter effects, faster load times.
I've been ready for a new console for years, despite being told by so many supposed game experts (e.g. Tom McShea, Adam Sessler, etc.) that we didn't need a new console. So funny how the old guys get set in their ways. "In my day we didn't have these fancy 8-bit graphics, graphics was a big rock in the drive-way. That's the way it was and we LIKED it..."
It's time for change. Relax, you will enjoy it, whether or not you can conceive of it being better, it will be.
The Gears of War franchise is a celebration of masculinity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I don't want or need testosterone in every game, but when I'm playing an aggressive physical testosterone-based game I'm not looking for femininity. It is a distraction not an benefit to those types of games.
@scydarkhope @apnance Whether it is a discussion of a topic or a review of the impact of violence in the video game industry is really only barely semantically significant. I do agree that ideally I should have used the word 'article' in lieu of 'review' though.
@chimpdaddy One rather obvious source of difference here is the relative availability of firearms. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that our relatively liberal gun laws significantly lower the barrier to commission of such violent acts with guns.
@SuperChin Yes, reviews like this make gamespot stand apart from the other *good* video websites with articles written by people who actually like video games and who understand the subculture. It is my increasing observation that McShea doesn't much care for hardcore games or the culture. He is a non-gamer in gamer's clothing. There are still a few good voices left at gamespot but their numbers are dwindling.
