I'm getting sick of receiving these emails as is my girlfriend.

With both Firefox and Internet Explorer we've tried going into our preferences and changed the email settings for this infernal feature to no. Yet every single time we check again, it is set to yes still, and of course we're receiving these emails.

How do I make them stop if your own website features won't let me?

Its threw Puralator (im Canadian). _EvidencE_

The Purolator guy who came for mine actually did all of the work packaging it.

But if you look at a sticker sheet the tracking code you want is one that's about 1 cm in height and 10 or so in length with the Purolator logo then a barcode and an 11 digit tracking code.

I assume there will be two identical ones (one for you to keep, the other to place on the box).

I have a softer place in my heart for Mario World, but Mario 3 is nearly utterly perfect for a 2-D platformer. It's surprising how few games have come close to even matching it, especially considering how long it's been around.

Ah, being a wee 5 year old going to the video store, my father renting it and popping it in to play for the first time. The memories...

I've been especially curious if Nintendo's going to usher out All-Stars.

Team killing was horrid months ago. Especially the first month of release. There's videos out there on YouTube of people filming themselves team killing. Was a bit ridiculous. Although it died down tremendously when the first patch was released, and considering arbiters are supposed to be around I assume it's very rare anymore.

But as Carnage said, unintentional team killing, well it's part of the game. With the number of grenades tossed, mines around, binocular shots used, TOW missiles fired and general carnage... People just wind up getting blown up. Much like real war.

The problem with Warhawk's mic work is both a boon and a fault. You have to press in the left stick to talk. The benefit of it is it cuts down on useless chatter, although I was in a few games where some guys would hold it down the entire time for no reason. The problem though is, especially when you wind up in some intense combat trying to say anything can be a bit trying.

People also tend to not talk. So not much coordination. Although you'll occasionally wind up on a team that can have great communication and teamwork, which definitely helps. Although the way the game is structured and played it's not really needed. Most people do their own thing, but help each other out if they can see an opportunity arise.

But I have to admit, I very well may have to go get someone to let me use their credit card Carnage. This thread's reminded me how much fun I had with Warhawk, i feel an itch to play with this new map. Oh, and the hovering death machine too.

Okay, but he and I apologized to eachother over that matter. I didn't need you talking on my behalf regarding what he and I had already resolved by the time you posted.Skylock00

You are making an assumption that my words were in any way based on anything you and him were posting on, which is borderline conceited.

I simply stated that he was ignoring other people's points of merit so he could continue bickering with you, of which to my perception you were winning on the grounds that his stance was pointless. Because you wound up glad handing each other afterwords is irrelevant.

I was not talking on your behalf nor would I care to.

Furthermore, I never claimed that I never was antagonistic towards him, I was merey trying to ask that you stop antagonizing him on the specific stance that I quoted you on, so there's no need to be pulling the pot/kettle stance here, since in that same post I originally quoted, you went to call the original poster an attention seeker/troll (posting in a manner that would ilicit a response).
Skylock00

I didn't call him a troll or say he was an attention seeker. Good job construing what you wish, especially after I already clarified what I meant already.

Nor was my post in any way to do with your trivial bickering. Like I said, I only pointed out that he was ignoring others points to bicker with you. If it was JimBobInternet15613 instead of you he was responding to and ignoring people I would have said the same thing.

Regardless, that has been (and not even at that) my only post in this thread even remotely antagonistic toward anyone.

After spending pages goading at him and attacking his points, it's hypocritical to instantly chastise someone simply because you all of a sudden "apologized".

And anyways, this is utterly pointless as it has jack diddly squat to do with the thread or topic in question, thus purposeless.

But oh course, go ahead and feel free to have the 'last word' as I'm sure you will, I'm off unti SentientGames may decide to post again.

Since I feel this thread has more merit of a "what actually makes a game worthy of 'game of the year'" thread than anything to do with Mario anymore.

Got ours back today. Was surprised the Purolator dude showed up at the door.

Although I'm a bit anoyed that our "Certified Microsoft Replacement Xbox360 Console" was manufactured in August 2006. Especially considering the one we actually bought was made this past spring. Guess I should expect it to break again down the line.

It only took two weeks from the time of breaking though, so I suppose that's good enough.

You can stop antagonizing him, since he and I both apologized to eachother for misunderstanding eachother's points on the matter.
Skylock00

You can stop trying to toss your weight around. It's unnecessary.

That's even ignoring the fact that I'm one of the few people that actually agreed with him in some aspects while YOU antagonized him. Pot, kettle and black come to mind.

And how exactly does wanting to discuss videogames on a videogame forum to pass time at work count as "attention seeking". It seems to me that you're trying to illicit attention out of me in a way that you know will warrent a responsemore then actually trying to contribute to the discusion.

SentientGames

I never said wanting to talk about videogames here was bad (it's what we're all here for afterall), you're statement about making the thread came off rather poorly in a very much almost trollish way, but I know that isn't the case since you can obviously debate with intelligence.

But read the thread, I have been trying very much to have an intelligent conversation with ya. Well as much of a "conversation" one can have on an Internet message board. Hah.

The fact the thread hasn't supremely devolved into nonsensical hate mongering toward you astonishes me. Which seems typical of any message board with anonymity.

I simply have tossed my view out there, and have even recommended you continue with the game. I viewed it much as you have, but once your further in the game it really opens up and is more enjoyable than most things out there. Heck I was so unimpressed I just left it sitting for a few weeks after only 4 hours of time. Only picked it back up on a whim with the 360 out and no desire to touch our PS3. And I'm glad I did.

I'm sorry if I missed your earlier posts. I didn't mean to ignore your comments, but this seems to be a bit of controversial topic so I had a lot to respond to at once.SentientGames

Bah, don't worry about it. You've had umpteen different salvos shot your way, which I'm sure you knew was bound to happen.

After all you don't think Mario Galaxy is "God's gift to gaming" like many people ascribe to for some reason. And "gamers" are a notorious lynching breed.

Basically, what I was trying to determine was what made people consider this game of the year. Most people have said it's just plain fun. I can appreciate that. However, others have basically said all of the short-comings (or what I consider to be short-comings) don't really apply to this game. It doesn't need these things, so their absense is not a short-coming.

I believe you're familiar with my stance on this, so I won't explain.SentientGames

That I agree with you on. A lot of people ignore many games short comings by casting them off for no good reason.

I think Mario would definitely benefit from some updated music. The first few games will filled to the brim with memory songs, but unfortunately have crept their way into later games not just as a nice throwback but as a way to compensate for lack of new material. That said though, some of Galaxy's new songs are very nice, especially the stuff in the, and even at that the remixed things are great.

And I absolutely think Nintendo should have voice acting in all of their games, not doing so is inexcusable in this day and age. Sure, keep your silent or 'quiet' (in Mario's case I supposed) protagonists, but why everything else must be left to the silent era I don't understand. It just boils down to Miyamoto's growing short sightedness. Heck he criticized Twilight Princess' sales due to an apparent lack of the general gaming public's desire to play "indepth" games... Thus why RPGs like Final Fantasy and Mass Effect sell by the boatload along with games like Gran Turismo and such out there.

The graphical presentation is top notch for though, but I feel that more could definitely be done. I feel Nintendo's reliance on their formulas have prevented them from truly expanding. Look at Super Mario Bros., then look at Mario 3. Look at the drastic difference in just 5 years on the same hardware. Look at Mario 64 and now Galaxy. Truly not that great of a leap considering it's two hardware configurations further and 11 years.

And story wise... Well that is one thing I can't agree with you on. I don't play Mario for a truly indepth story, and besides the Mario RPGs slightly cover that. Just as I didn't watch The Departed for a light frothy romantic comedy I didn't watch The Incredibles for a scathing and satirical take on real world politics in the 1960s. So yes, i think you are reaching when you can't look past the "Mario doesn't need a story" comments, as they are fairly valid on those grounds. It's why stuff like Mass Effect for example exists.

If you want me to explain why it shouldn't get game of the year, let me reiterate that I've only played the game for five hours and I plan to continue playing it this afternoon. Super Mario Galaxy pushed the bar forward for platform gaming mechanics. GOTY? I don't think so, yet. You know the reasons why I don't think.Sure, the soundtrack is nice, the environments are neat, and the controls don't suck. Most people are banking on the fun factor. But, like I said, I suppose I still have yet to experience the parts of the game that really leave you in awe.SentientGames

I whole heartedly suggest you do delve further into the game. The last few areas (The Bedroom, Engine Room and Garden) have some utterly tremendous platforming goodness.

To put that statement into perspective, let's look at how some other games have pushed the bar forward. Take Crysis - it violently shoved the bar forward for graphics excelence. GOTY? Nah, I don't think so.Theaudience isn't big enough to justifyGOTY.CoD4 - it pushed the bar forward for both cinematic quality and multiplayer quality. GOTY? Maybe, but I wouldn't vote for it. I personally found Crysis to be more engaging and fun.Portal - it pushed the bar forward for originality, humor, creativity, and puzzle solving. GOTY? Don't think so. It just wasn't long enough (though I was happy with the length), and people don't seem regard the Orange Box or the individual games within the Orange Box as contestants. Rock Band - pushed the bar forward for rhythm games by adding the whole venue of instruments. GOTY? No, at nearly two hundred dollars, it's almost like buying another console. How about Mass Effect? It pushed the bar forward for character interactive and dialog. GOTY? Nope. The combat system is tedious and difficult, in addition to the game having numerous graphical bugs and other flaws. Assasin's Creedpushed the bar forward for environmental interaction and fluid animations. GOTY? Nuh-huh. It's buggy, repetative, and fairly shallow.
SentientGames

Heh... You have no idea how much I actually agree with you.

However I feel you're being short sighted and too critical when it comes to awarding "game of the year" to something.

Not all games must be cutting edge and push the boundaries of their respective genres. The Unforgiven for example won the best movie Oscar with good reason. It wasn't cutting edge, it wasn't overly original as it's subject matter had already been covered numerous times, it wasn't even the best acted movie or most cinematographically the best... What it was however was a refinement of every single aspect of the wrstern genre brought into near perfection on screen.

Mario Galaxy is the same with platformers.

It is the culmination of numerous aspect of differing quality brought together into a cohesive and brilliant whole.

Sure you can spot numerous inconsistancies if you wish and point out flaws, but they do not take away from the whole overall product.

All games have flaws and it seems like you seemingly are focusing far too much on the negative qualities when it comes to games. You won't find the perfect game.

I can see how you're looking at it... When I objectively think about it and ask myself the question "Is Super Mario Galaxy the best game released this year?" i feel it is not because, as with a lot of other games released, a lot more could have been done. Yet honestly if I just think about what I have had the most fun with, Mario Galaxy ranks well up there.

And like I said before... That's why we play games, for fun.

So the game you have the most fun with, even taking into consideration its flaws, isn't it the best, and thus "Game of the Year"?

Oh I hear ya, I just personally got sick of how many games devolved into having one team holed up. Thus I haven't played.

It just becomes boring when you have the other team utterly at a loss and can go willy nilly about doing whatever you damn well please. Takes some of the competetive nature out of it.

Worse is when you wind up joining a game on a team that is already holed up. I mentioned Euchadia because it's the worse for it. Island Outpost and Badlands have countless ways to expand, Destroyed Capital isn't too bad (since it's mostly confined anyways or in the air) with Archipelago just being too fun to be annoyed at, Nothing was more frustrating for me to spawn on a horrid team in Euchadia and having no access to a Warhawk since seemingly every horrible person thinks hopping in and hovering in spot shooting at stuff is a brilliant idea.

And even if you're lucky to get out, if the other team is even remotely competent and watching their maps, or even just following you, trying to retake the spawn points becomes an effort in futility. Now, if at least a few people try, it'll work of course, but all too often most people just consign to sitting in their base like helpless turtles.

The offense aspect of the game is brilliant, I just can't stand defending. It's essential, but if you're going to do it at least try and do a decent job. I still don't know how 12 people in a base can seemingly still have a flag get taken from them, let alone why they won't even try getting it back.

That said, yeah it doesn't happen all of the time and I'm sure maybe it's improved. Especially considering the new patch is out I may just have to fire the black behemoth up to see for myself.

The point of this thread was to discover why a game that seemed somewhat mediocre to me has been widely regarded as one of the best games of the year

SentientGames

To which numerous people have tried to state why, and I have put forth numerous examples. Of which you soundly ignore all so you can continue a war of the words with SkyLock that you're soundly losing.

and also to pass time at my boring job.

SentientGames

Which goes to show that you were just seeking attention from people in a manner you know would illicit a response.
