I thought Asobo was already an Xbox Game Studio. Guess I was wrong.

I feel like as long as they have a solid relationship with Asobo for Flight Simulator, they don't need to acquire them.

so there is no way for developers to figure out how to implement raytracing that is less gpu heavy? I guess lighting can't improve either because even though its got better over the years. I guess animations will never improve either. or hair will never improve either.

I guess this will be the best games will look ever. we are at the benchmark of games now. so I guess there no reason for new graphic cards or systems because we can't improve anything.

The "Lumen" system in Unreal Engine 5 calculates dynamic bounce-lighting without raytracing. It looks pretty damn awesome, but it has some drawbacks compared to actual ray-tracing (ie. the artist has to do some work to support it).

I just got a nice Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 system and FH4 sounds absolutely glorious in it. Can't wait to hear how FH5 sounds. :)

My only gripe about Smart Delivery is it always forces the more advanced edition of a game. I read while back when COD on PS5 was auto-installing PS4 version but nonetheless PS5 players have an array of options to play games built for tiers other PS models (like base PS4 or PS4 Pro or PS5). I wish the Xbox did this actually.

Smart Delivery does recognize the difference between Xbox Series S and X, and developers do have the option of delivering unique assets to each of those consoles. Activision just needs to do a better job of splitting CoD games into individual packages that end-users can mix and match according to their needs.

Of course, let's not forget that those saves will be there waiting for you on Xbox Cloud Gaming as well. You can literally play Forza Horizon 4, for example, move to FH4 on PC (Windows Store version, not Steam), then FH4 on Xbox Cloud Gaming and finally FH4 on Xbox Series S/X, and your save will follow you everywhere. No muss, no fuss, totally automatic.

Xbox series x frame rate is hideous, what with the constant 80-115fps jump. Terrible fps performance, unlucky for users without VRR enabled TVs.

Not surprised PS5 ver runs better at 120fps anyhow devs already took extra measures to make CoD especially performs on PS4, probably the same effort to make the PS5 ver runs as well.

PS5 has 20% higher framerates than Xbox Series X... at half the resolution. Not a lot of effort required to just cut the resolution in half. 😂

Another easy win for Xbox. 😄

Also, I have to laugh at the fact that PS5 can't do 4K 120Hz with HDR on. What an embarrassment for you cows. 😂

Summary

Both games are essentially last-gen versions that can detect they are running on current-gen systems and enable certain graphics modes if they are, including 120Hz mode. This used to be exclusive to Xbox Series X, but Sony finally enabled it for PS5 back-compat.

Activision claims HDMI 2.1 support is required. This is not true; HDMI 2.0 displays will work fine, it's just that you'll be limited to 1080p at 120Hz on PS5, or 1440p at 120Hz on Xbox Series X.

But on the PS5 side, to enable 120Hz support, you must turn HDR off. If HDR is on, the console will be locked to 4K 60Hz mode and 120fps mode will be disabled.

Developers use the 'SCEKERNELISPROSPERO' system call to check if it's running on PS5, 1 for PS5, 0 for PS4/Pro.

Even on PS5, system RAM is limited to 5.5GB for back-compat games, whereas Xbox Series X allows 9GB for back-compat games.

Despite this, Warzone largely uses the same graphical settings on both consoles, but the dynamic LoD system results in better LoD levels on Xbox Series X.

Resolution

  • Xbox Series X renders at a minimum of 1920x2160 and uses reconstruction to get up to 3840x2160.
  • PS5 renders in a dynamic resolution ranging from 1512p to 1566p. Much lower than Xbox Series X, and visibly blurrier.

Framerate

  • PS5 maintains significantly higher framerates than Xbox Series X. During gameplay, PS5 largely stays pegged at 120fps, while Xbox Series X ranges between 90 and 110fps.
  • Side-by-side comparison reveals Xbox Series X also has stuttering and tearing problems, but these are fixed by VRR. So the end result is that PS5 gives you an 8ms frame time, while Xbox Series X gives you a 9ms frame time, while still delivering a much higher resolution.
  • If you have a 120Hz display that doesn't support VRR, then PS5 is best. If you have a 4K, 120Hz display that does support VRR, then Xbox Series X is best. If you're playing on Xbox using a 4K 120Hz display without VRR, then probably drop it down to 60fps mode.

Speaking of 60fps mode...

  • Both consoles maintain 60fps pegged at all times, but Xbox Series X delivers full 4K while PS5 still runs at 1512p-1566p. Massive difference in clarity.

Since it's coming out for PC as well, I wonder if the contract allows Microsoft to release it on the Windows Store on PC Game Pass with full Xbox support. And then the second the exclusivity period expires, they just flip the switch to make it available on console and cloud as well.

It would be funny seeing the cows react to that. 😂
