I just expected better than what I saw when I was looking into getting it for either the PS4 or PC. I guess you read deeper into my comment than I did the source of the footage I was watching. Taking your install base for granted is always a great strategy going into online-only multiplayer games.

@ZIMdoom: I didn't mean to imply people own multiple consoles to play with friends, what I was suggesting is that cross-play eliminates most of the influence exclusives and your peers have over which console you buy. I do not believe people own multiple consoles solely to play with friends across all platforms, but if cross-play became the norm it's to PlayStation's disadvantage.

They have a highly desirable product, as evidenced by their sales this gen, and for all we know many people may be ripe to make the switch next-gen should things keep going their way. If they introduce cross-play they've effectively eliminated that desire as people will just stick with what they know and enjoy their cross-platform games via cross-play with everyone else.

ZIM already introduced the point about the Xbox having more raw power than the PlayStation. Once people start comparing games side by side and see the game performing better on the superior but very competitively priced hardware it's easy to guess which system people are going to go with, barring any horrible anti-consumer policies/practices destroying this superior hardware's roll out of course.

I don't disagree micro transactions are motivating them as well, good point.

@RSM-HQ: He's entitled to his opinion and preference of video game. We don't care how much you love Monster Hunter. I played the beta and couldn't delete that garbage off my system fast enough, I'll be damned if I would've pre-ordered or dropped a dime on it.
