Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to agree with you on the whole. They're going to wind up doing poorly because their lineup was such a shortlist on the front side. I think sales on the Switch will wind up stagnant, resulting in either a lot of unmoved consoles or a relatively early price drop.
I get that it's done fairly well, and the one friend I have that got the Switch likes it, but let's stay within the realm of reality. There hasn't actually BEEN a console launch in nearly three and a half years.
The nemesis system in the first was phenomenal (and I'm hoping to see something similar built up in other games), but after just one playthrough, I had my fill of SoM.
Not sure why it's this way, but every Arkham game and every Assassin's Creed (aside from Black Flag) has been the same way. There's just nothing to encourage playing through again. Despite the "open world" settings, there's a huge limit as to what you can actually do - and you do those things over and over and over again.
I'm looking forward to checking out this new game, but I really hope to see it expanded on in ways that the other series needed.
And just as a reminder of all the disappointments that the game has been on console, feel free to read through a lot of the comments here: https://twitter.com/PD2Crimewave/status/829042880081707009 (Reminder - this is in reply to "Status Update #12" - which is an update ABOUT their update, not an actual update)
I'm not saying Payday 2 is a bad game, because it isn't (when you're playing with friends), but I really wish they'd pull out of consoles if they're not actually going to support it.
I'm expecting this to go about as well as the Ghostbusters reboot did, but hopefully the larger name actresses will be enough to keep it afloat. I enjoyed the Oceans movies, so I wish them the best.
